spreading genital type 1 infection (male) to face and top of hand

Hi:
I was diagnosed with genital type 1 herpes infection in December via PCR on my pubic hair area, so just about a month or so ago. I am currently having a widespread outbreak of type 1 herpes and have some questions.

I've had type 1 oral infection since the age of ten (on the lower left of my lip only as a coldsore, which stopped having active outbreaks at 18... I have 0 a year now) so I thought that would give me immunity to spreading the infection to multiple places. It seems I currently have an outbreak of type 1 under my left eye which tested positive via a PCR (this is the second time it occurred so I had it cultured - a month in between each breakout).

I also have had a outbreak on my left shoulder (top) and left palm of my hand and backside of my hand. On Nov 27th I was exposed to an active outbreak of type 1 genital on my parters buttocks, while giving oral sex. So my face did have contact to the blisters, and I have ezcema as well so I'm guessing the skin conditon helped the herpes virus get in.

My questions are:

1) How do you go about getting on suppressive therapy?

I've had a long lasting HSV1 Oral infection so doctors don't feel its necessary but these breakouts are painful and seem to be spreading (also the HSV on my face has lasted 13 days so far and will probably scar thinking it was a cyst at first).

2.) Do all herpes medications act the same, have there been any longterm studies on side-effects of taking a daily suppressive for longer than a yr?

3.) Is it normal for type 1 to be reacting this way even with exposure, since I'm 24 now and had an oral infection since ten I assumed it wouldn't spread this easily.

I do know two friends who now have confined in me they also have type 1 genital herpes, one male and one female - one has never had another outbreak while the other has one every 6 months.

4.) Are their any studies on herpes being spread or worsening a skin condition such as eczema on the face..? its really making me self conscious and its quite painful on the face. I've had two outbreaks a month apart, thats why I would like to try suppressive therapy - can I demand it...?

Thank you for your time :)

To get on suppressive therapy just askeep your Dr. He should have no problem with this.

I am surprised to hear you have a genital infection after having a long term oral infection. The hsv by your eye isn't rare. It's all part of the same nerve ganglia and is pretty common.
I would just go to your Dr and get on suppressive therapy.
