very worried!

I am worried I've contracted herpes genitally.

7 days ago I had sex w a friend. we had heavy kissing and he very briefly performed oral sex on me. we had condom protected sex and later unprotected sex. I later noticed in better light he had redness (in a pretty linear formation) below his lip and freaked out that it was a cold sore. he shrugged it off and said it was maybe shaving irritation. he has had cold sores in the past but never in that spot that i've seen or that looked like this. he has had no symptoms of any std's.

(I have randomly had cold sores in various spots on my lips over the past several years. the odd thing is, 2 years ago ( definitely after i had cold sores) i kissed a guy with a cold sore and a few days later i formed a cold sore in the same spot, which i didnt think it was possible to recatch... but perhaps i never build up immunity?? anyhow my cold sores are always mild and go away quickly.)

anyhow, 2 days after my encounter above, i woke up to what looked like a cut on my lower lip... on the same side of my mouth that would have come in contact with his.  although his wasn't ON his lip, like mine was. i will say my lips were very dry due to various antihistamines i was taking, so maybe it could have just been a cut. there was no pain and no itching and it was gone in 2 days.

3  days after the encounter, i used vaginal wash for the first time. then, about the next morning, i had
some general vaginal discomfort. i THINK it felt tingly. but then i had white stuff on my vagina and it felt almost like a yeast infection. over the next several days this continued and itchiness persisted on and off.  itchiness was on the side where his cold sore would have come in contact with me, but on the opposite side as well. on day 6 and 7 itchiness got worse but seemed to get better when i thoroughly cleaned the area. day 7 i went for a long run in the morning wearing a thong, and a few hours later felt a stingiing.. which quickly subsided. ive been examining my vagina. no sores but its red (prob from me prodding) and with a flashlight i notcied that on the side where his cold sore would have touched me, looks almost like a very small tear in the skin! although I think its too high up for where his actual sore would have touched. im freaking bc it resembles cut on my lip too. this may also have been me further irritated the area but touchign and prodding and also my long run. when i touch it its painless. also at this point, itching has greatly subsided (ive been eating yogart, since i originally thought it was a yeast infection)

does this sound like herpes to u?  or could it be an infection from the vaginal wash? (also, i tend to get irrtation from certain condoms, not sure which ones were used last)  please help!

Once you have HSV 1 in one location on your body (your lips), it is highly unlikely that you would acquire it at a new location on your body.  In 30 years I MAY have seen it once.  I doubt that is the situation with you.  If you have a cut that you are worried about perhaps you should have it swabbed for herpes as you could possibly have HSV 2 infection and not know it?  Have you been tested for herpes?

In summary, I am not concerned about you getting HSV 1 from your partner's mouth during this encounter.

Does that help?

You don't "recatch" HSV 1.  But there may be something about the friction of kissing that triggers outbreaks for you.

This is my final post on this thread.

sorry, i meant to say 'kiss' people with a cold sore.  i have had cold sores for about 5 years randomly.  but in the past 2 years, i've kissed 2 people who had visible cold sores.. and got a cold sore myself a couple days later.  why do i seem to 'recatch' hsv1?

Your doctor is in a better position than I am to have thoughts about what is going on with you.

I can't say you are in the clear for HSV 2.  Only type specific antibody testing can answer that for u.

I don't know what you are asking about the cold sore issue.

Hi Terri,

Thanks for your response. This has actually made me MORE paranoid though! I actually went to the doctor the day after I posted this when I had the "cut". I think perhaps 'cut' was an inflated description. Anyhow the Dr said it didnt look like herpes at all.  He said it looked like a yeast infection. He said the whole area was so dry all over and this caused cracking. I expressed to him my exteme paranoia over herpes and he actually said he didnt even see anything that would be feasible to swab to test for herpes.

That said... do you think I am in the clear for herpes (hsv2)??  also why would i seem to get cold sores when i miss people with cold sores... if i've already had them??

thanks!!

also thinking back, i wanted to elaborate that i noticed the cut and subsequent stinging a few hours after rough masturbation on the already dry/irritated/area area..

also just wanted to elaborate that the stinging only happened when water touched the affected area in the shower initiallly
