why am I having an outbreak right after just having one

Hi,
I usually get outbreaks twice a year sometimes 3...I have had this for about 2 yrs. I just had an outbreak a month ago and now I am having another one! I am just wondering why this is happening. Also, I don't get them in the genital area I am getting it on my leg which is weird. This is the 3rd time I have had it there...is this common? I am not on any medications for it...

condoms during ob's are not adequate protection against transmission to a partner. we recommend avoiding sex completely during active recurrences if a partner is negative for that type of herpes. The virus sheds from the entire anogenital area and a condom only covers the penis.

hey,
you were right! it was bv even though i wasn't having symptoms and my std tests came bk neg....you seem to know it all girlfriend! thanks so much for your help, my doc didn't even want to do the test for bv but since u mentioned it I pretended to have the symptoms and as it turned out I did have it.

I have a question...what is the chances of passing it to my partner if I had sex with a condom and sex without a condom during an outbreak??

thanks Grace!

oh I didn't know you live in canada. it's priced differently there.

only thing I can suggest is to call and make sure they were giving you the price for the generic version and ask the pharmacist for advice for getting antivirals cheaper.

yes but I live in Canada...I have no idea why it costs over $70 I was thinking they gave the wrong dosage bcuz you said it was cheaper than valtrex but the valtrex is 50 for a 30 day supply so I dont get it.

so I went and got tested for STDs and BV. I also got that acyclovir  prescription but the doc gave me one for 10 days @ 5 times a day and it was $72!!! When I went to get a month of valtrex is was about $50 so i am confused as to why it was so much and also upset bcuz I couldn't afford it :(
I asked the pharmacy if I could just have half of it so it was cheaper but they were saying it wouldnt be effective. Was this 5 a day for 10 days incorrect? were the pharmacists correct on it not being effective if the whole amount isn't taken? I'm confused and upset I just want this OB to go away it has been so painful and people are asking why I am limping about and barely able to walk I don't know what to say as I don't want to announce it to the world.....
Thanks

just as effective, you just take it more often.

acyclovir is the original herpes antiviral :)

Hi Grace,
No they haven't been tested yet...also if they were giving me oral and I unknowingly was going through an outbreak (on my leg) could they develop a cold sore from this?

I am going to the doc today to test for BV and STDs just to be safe.

Also, is there anything that could have triggered the outbreak? Like excessive drinking or aggressive/a lot of sex??

Thanks Grace!

acyclovir is way cheaper than valtrex is. call your provider for a prescription for it. you can get a round of acyclovir at walmart for $4 even without insurance!  Daily suppressive therapy through them is under $20 a month too even without insurance.

doubtful it's a std causing this issue. I'd just go for a full exam and testing for bv, not std testing.

if your partner contracted hsv2 from you, symptoms would occur between 2-20 days after you had sex. was your partner tested for herpes before you started to be intimate to know their status?

gosh im sorry one more...what are the chances he contracted it if I was having an outbreak (and i didn't notice it) and we used a condom though

and one less question, sorry, if my partner did contract it how long would it typically take to show symptoms? like what would be the fastest possible time a day or 2?

something I want to add is I recently had a tetnis shot would this contribute to an outbreak?

well I can't afford the valtrex which is why i stopped taking it :( I am sure its a OB on my leg cuz it keeps coming in the same spot and looks exactly as it did when it was in my pubic area.
I am going to get an STD test tomorrow to make sure that's not the case.

Otherwise, is there anything else that could be causing me to have this severe outbreak? Are there things that cause them, such as having a lot of sex or something? or drinking? ugh Its just weird that I always have a mild one far apart now I just get this horrible one where I can barely walk a month after having one. I hate this! :(

Also, I thought herpes is most contagious just b4 and during an outbreak? It could have even been 2-3 days b4 and I didn't notice it. I would have dismissed it as an itch bcuz I didn't expect one so soon. Only today when I kept itching and I looked did I realize it was another stupid OB.

And thanks again Grace...don't know what I would do without u :)

even though your ob's are on your thigh area, I'd still go and be seen and get properly tested for bv vaginally. Bv is known to make herpes more active and 50% of the time it doesn't cause any obvious discharge or odor so it's well worth proper testing for. If your provider balks at testing you for it due to lack of symptoms vaginally, ask them nicely to do it to make you happy.

did you start antivirals with this ob?

it's not too unusual to go awhile without ob's and then have a few in a row. Definitely confirm that this is herpes going on and not a bacterial infection on the leg or something too.  if you continue to get ob's more often, daily suppressive therapy is worth considering so that you aren't bothered by them as much :)

female and i have hsv2...i was diagnosed by swabbing the lesion which initially came above the hair line of my pubic hair
itt has actually been 2.5-3yrs now that i think about it
this pain is fairly intense its quite hard to walk, I have never had this b4 how come all the sudden this is happening? like I normally have a minimum of 4 months between them but usually 6 sometimes even longer...what would cause this to happen?
thank u so much for your help Grace!!!

how were you originally diagnosed as having genital herpes? do you have hsv1 or hsv2?

yes, pain would be from the herpes recurrence.

are you male or female?

odds are low of transmission 4 days prior to the ob.

I am also having really severe pain in my upper thighs like the muscles are badly pulled...could this be due to the outbreak? the outbreak is on my lower thigh so I am wondering if this is connected...what can I do to make my outbreaks less frequent and why is this happening so soon after I just had one? is there anything I should avoid to help prevent them?
thanks
