Picky eater
My one year old Tibetan spaniel is a picky eater we've tried different wet foods, dried food and she refuses to eat them. She has her days when she don't want to eat any at all. However if I give her homemade food like a boil chicken with vegies she eats it all and wants more. She also likes to eat fruits. Is this normal and should I continue to give her homemade food?

Many small dogs, like yours are finicky eaters. Feeding your dog a healthy home-made diet is a wonderful option, which I recommend to many of my pet patients.
Begin by dividing your dog's home-made diet up into three sections:
1/3 lean protein: sources include chicken, lamb, beef, duck, venison, eggs, fish such as. salmon
1/3 long acting carbohydrates: sources include any kind of rice, potatoes, pasta, macaroni, oatmeal
1/3 fresh vegetables acting carbohydrates: sources include broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, string beans, spinach, peas, carrots, etc.
Cook each as you wish, mix them together, then add a little extra virgin olive oil. This enhances the smell and the taste and is a great source of omega-3 fatty acids.
Finally, remember dogs like food that smells good so season it up. Some dogs like barbecue sauce, others like pasta sauce and many enjoy the brown sauce Chinese carry out comes in, which is called Tamari Sauce. You can but low sodium tamari sauce at most grocery stores.
Divide the food up into at least two meals a day and consider adding a natural, balanced vitamin supplement, like Paaws which ensures your dog is receiving completely balanced dietary nutrients.
