Girl I love has hpv

So Im in love with this girl.. We have been dating for 3 months.. No sex or anything like that.. Well its going close to that time to take it to that level.. She tells me she has hpv the kind that causes cervical cancer.

I am torn.. I don't know what to do. I know this relationship is not one that will lead to a life long marriage but it could easily lead to a 4 year relationship. What do I do. Im not going to abandon her because she was honest with me when she just as easily could of slept with me never telling me.. And I would of never known the difference.

Hey guys, I'm glad that you took interest in my comment and wanted to look further in to it...When i said "everything is curable" I didnt mean that the the cures for everything have already been found, i just meant that everything can be cured. However, there are certain diseases that have already been cured in some people, for instance, HIV....There is a cure for that. It would take a lot of work and a person would have to really change their lifestyle, but it has been cured before. HPV is not nearly as hard to get rid of as HIV. As long as your immune system is up to par your body will basically take care of HPV for you. As for my quote "Most women who become infected with HPV are able to eradicate the virus and suffer no apparent long-term consequences to their health" the link to that page is http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/NEWS/2003/NEW00890.html the title of the article is called FDA Approves Expanded Use of HPV Test. It was released on March 31, 2003. Since then, the results are still the same; however, you probobly won't find a more recent article from the FDA stating this, because it would conflict with their support of the more recent Gardasil Vaccine. And my reference for the three different results that you can get when being tested for hpv come from my very own experience. When I was 20 I tested positive for high risk hpv. I had to get a laser procedure. A few months later, I went back and had a pap smear, as well as another hpv test. The doctor told me that The HPV had shown up, but that it was not an active infection. She said because my HPV was dormant, I would not need to get any procedures done. Then, another few months went by, and I went in for another pap smear, as well as another HPV test. This time, when I called for my results, I was told that the test did not detect any HPV at all. So I have had all three of these results: "Active" hpv, "Dormant" hpv, and HPV undetected. That is how I know that these results are possible. I know that there are claims which state that the standard HPV test doesnt always detect HPV when it is dormant, but I have never heard the claim that it "can not" detect the virus when it is dormant. I don't have any other references other than my own experience with my test results. I also agree with you that there are many doctors who argue that HPV is not irradicated from the body. And there are many doctors who argue that HPV is irradicated from the body.

I really didn't mean to support anyone's comments... I was just trying to draw your attention towards what experts say & currently know... as such this is a matter of conflict as yet to know whether virus is eradicated or it becomes dormant... Further, I completely agree with your comments on digene results...

Thank you for think link but I don't believe that supports what sillygurl is stating. I'm not trying to be argumentative but there are doctors that claim HPV is a lifelong virus (which Dr. HHH does also states is possible in his response) and that HPV can vary back and forth between active dormant. While the infections are cleared the virus may remain - yet at the same time there are doctors that claim otherwise. There is research to support both statements. In fact, at the NCC and HPV conference this past weekend a doctor speaking said that it is unknown whether the virus is truly "eradicated' or simply dormant. The only FDA approved standard HPV test (digene) is not capable of testing to see if hpv is positive and active, hpv positive but not active (also known as dormant), and hpv not detected". Only whether there is an active HPV infection and the strain category of high risk or low risk.
I'm interested in reading about the test Sillygurl is speaking about. In all honesty, I am not trying to be disagreeable but I am aware of different facts so I would like to read up on this.

Hi Sillygul, can you please provide me with some references of where you get your information from? This is the very first I have ever heard of HPV tests being done that can indicate hpv positive and active, hpv positive but not active (also known as dormant) also I have never heard of anyone being able to irradicate HPV. Dormant yes but not irradicate. I would like to read up on this.
Although - I do disagree with the statment that 'everything is curable' in the grand scheme of things, no, not 'everything' is curable.

the FDA actually released an article saying that "most women irradicate the virus within 2 years"....so, depending on how long it's been since she's had sex, and how much longer you guys wait, she may be cleared of the virus before you guys have sex....tests actually can detect the virus when it is dormant....it shows up on the test even when it is not an active infection...when a women gets tested for hpv, there are 3 possible results: hpv positive and active, hpv possitive but not active (also known as dormant), and hpv not detected....but, since the common belief is that "no virus is curable", and so many women test negative for the virus, years after testing positive for it, they just assume that the virus is still there...think of it this way: if the test can detect the virus when it is not active (Dormant), then what does it mean when the test doesnt detect the virus at all? lol, does it meant that the virus is more dormant than the regular dormant?? No, it means that the virus is nolonger there. Whether or not hpv is a "forever virus" has become one of the biggest debates, among doctors, and researchers.... the reason why: because research and evidence shows that it is NOT a "forever virus", however, that notion does not fit into our preconcieved beliefs about viruses being "forever"....we live in a world that is secrative, and decieving, but if you look around for some clues, you will see that many of the beliefs that we have are very untrue...EVERYTHING IS CURABLE....its just a matter of finding out how...and in the case of hpv, its actually one of the most simple ones to cure....as long as you have a healthy ammune system, your body will take care of it for you....i really wouldnt worry about it....and if still think its a "forever virus" then, its still not really a big deal, because, if thats the case, then you will fit in with the other 80

Most experts and researchers believe that someone positive on HPV DNA test will eventually be negative after certain years... Agreed to simplynat's comments, recurrances and severity is more complicated in pregnant women, specifically because the immune system is down during pregnancy period...

I just want to clarify - you don't get rid of it forever. You can clear the infection in 6 months to 2 years but HPV is a DNA virus, once you have it you do have it for life. Your immune system just have the capability of pushing it into dormancy. Which can be for the rest of your life or it can also become active again. Especially, for a woman, if she becomes pregnant, her immune system is down and it can create an environment in which the HPV can become active again. For men - HPV usually has no ill effects.

Is HPV more stronger than your love? (HPV, that has no known health issues for male and it's more of a cosmatic concern, if it's low risk... you'll never know if you have high risk and your body will clear it up by itself)... HPV, something that shed's over a few years... Please remember, it was not the choice of the girl you loved, she didn't even know when she got it... You might already have some strain of this virus but don't know... Our body has the ability to clear up all the hpv infection in almost all the cases...

IF YOU MARRY AND STAY MONOGAMOUS WITH EACH OTHER, IT IS FOR SURE THAT THERE WOULD BE A TIME YOU BOTH WILL GET RID OF IT FOREVER... EXPERTS BELIEVE THAT THE TIME PERIOD IS FROM 6 MONTHS TO 2 YEARS... IN SOME IT TAKES A LITTEL LONGER...

Hi Justin, you may not be aware of this but HPV is a VERY common virus. 80% of people do have this virus but are likely unaware of it. In fact, if you have had sex in the past, to perfectly blunt, more than likley you already have the virus. 4 out of 5 people have HPV, it can be passed without even having intercourse. It can be passed through sexual touching and even condoms are only 70% effective in protecting against the transmission of the virus.
There are no symptoms (unless you have the low risk which can sometimes cause warts) but for most people they can clear the infection without any effects and without ever having known they have HPV. This does not mean you rid yourself of HPV only that the virus is pushed into dormancy and this virus can be dormant for over 20 years! There is no test for men when it comes to HPV only women. It is also important to note, that just because a person tests negative for HPV doesn't mean they don't have it - it only indicates that there isn't an active HPV infection at the time of testing. Yes, the high risk strain can cause things like penile cancer, anal cancer and oral cancer in men but this is EXTREMELY rare. (remember 80% of people have this virus but nowhere near 80% of people have HPV related cancers.) HPV tends to be more detrimental to women that it is to men. In some women, whose immuse systems are unable to fight off the HPV infection it can sometimes cause cervical dysplasias and/or cancers but not always. So, truly. You will never, ever know who has this virus because most of the people that have it have no idea they have it. You very well may already be a carrier of a strain of HPV. Sorry to be so blunt - it's just the only way I know how to say it.
