HPV and pregnancy

Hello Dr. Downing,

Had a couple questions that i wanted to pose... the first is that i have been diagnosed with HPV not to long ago and I am currently trying to get pregnant... I have stop taking the pill since December 07 and my husband and I have been having sex regularly for the past couple months. I have always gotten my period.

I regularly get cramps with my period and sore breast... it is hard to make out the difference...

How long should i wait after having stop taking the pill to be expecting that maybe i could get pregnant?
My husband is also a pretty heavy smoker and i know that there are many smoker men that still get their wives pregnant without quitting... but it seems that there is a problem with his sperm...

As there are times that his sperm is clear and comes out in small quantities... and other times he ejaculates a lot and it is white like it usually is... Is this a problem?

And if i have HPV and that means that he has automatically???? and if so does that effect Fertility?

Thank you for answering...

I'm not sure  how quickly you will get pregnant since stopping the pill or about  your husbands sperm, but as for HPV, i'ts  very common.  Do you have warts or the high risk type?

I have two friends that had high risk HPV and as a result had to have LEEP.  Both went on to have regular pregnancies.  They delivered vaginally too.  No problems.  Their kids are healthy and didn't come out with warts or anything ;P  I read the Maternal forum as well (pretty interesting stuff over there) and many of those women have had HPV - both the warts and abnormal paps.  They all seem to be doing fine, their kids are healthy and all.

Since about 90% of the population (sexually active) has HPV, I think it's pretty safe to say that no one is stopping having children or else there would be no one left to populate the earth!  HPV is so common it's actually quite normal to have it.  Sleep with 3 people, you got it.  And condoms protect some but it's not 100%.  A lot of people that I know who have HPV, always used a condom so what does this tell ya?  Condom is great for many diseases but HPV is a skin virus and that can be anywhere around the genitals that isn't covered with a condom.

You and your husband share the same type but there isn't a test for him, unless he's got warts.

The only people that will be safe from HPV, will be the newest generation that is getting vaccinated.

I read somewhere that like 95% of the sexually active population has hpv but only 5% has any problems and even less than that will go on to get cervical cancer.  The only way you'll get cervical cancer is if you don't keep up your paps and get treated for any abnormal cells.
