Many factors lead to cancer but HPV is linked to anal/oral/skin cancers and all people should worry about it.

Penile cancer accounts for less than .2% of cancers in men in the united States. It accounts for 10% of cancers in men in the developing world. This leads me to beleive that factors other than HPV are really important.

And it is such a low risk, it really isn't worth worrying about.

This can be passed to men whether condoms are used or not and HPV is the biggest cause of penile cancer.

the leep takes out part of your cervix to get rid of the cancerous/precancerous cells....and for additional testing to see if your dysplasia has progressed any further.

You means the abnomal growth after the mistake happened one year later?
in my mind, the incubation period of HPV virus is about 3~8 months.
What is the LEEP test?

Dear Thumbbelina,

Please do not panic. I just joined this site regarding some breast cysts and i came across your post. HPV is an an abbreviation for human papilloma viruses. Each type of HPV has the potential to cause an abnormal growth on a particular part of your body — genital warts and other lesions on or near your genitals or anus, Some types of HPV infection can cause cancer of the cervix, the narrow outlet of the uterus. Other HPV infections may cause other cancers of the genitals, anus. However, not all infections with these dangerous types lead to cancer.  Most genital HPV infections of high-risk types don't develop into cancer; however, persistent infections — generally lasting more than two years — create a greater risk of cancer. HPV infections of type 16 and 18, as well as other high-risk types, may also contribute to cancers of the genitals, anus, mouth and upper respiratory tract.HPV infection occurs when the virus enters your body through a cut, abrasion or imperceptible tear in the outer layer of your skin. The virus is transferred primarily by skin-to-skin contact.

Number of sexual partners. The greater your number of sexual partners, the more likely you are to contract a genital HPV infection. Having sex with a partner who has had multiple sex partners also increases your risk.

HPV can cause precancerous/ cancer of cervix. It will take years for Dysplasia ( pre cancerous cells) to progress into cancer if left untreated. There is Mild dysplasia CIN1 and moderate dysplasia (CINII) and then Severe dysplasia (CINIII). Normally there is no treatment for CINI but a check up every 3 or 6 months will be required. I will provide you a website to study which explain all of that. http://www.gynalternatives.com/cervical.htm

What did your Pap smear indicated? do you have a copy of your result? I was diagnosed with HPV many years ago and had CINI in 2002. I would be more than happy to share my experience with you but one thing i have to let you know that you are not alone.

There is a website (online support) for women with HPV and Cervical dyplasia / cancer and i am a member of that site too. It is very helpful and  the ladies there helped me a lot when i was going through this. Let me know if you are interested in joining the group.

I will keep you in my thoughts,

Taylor40
