HPV reaccurance after unprotected sex.

I was diagnosed with genital warts 10 years ago and treated 4-5 times to remove over the next 6-7 years.  Then at age 30 the warts went away for 3 years. And I did not have any sex for almost 10 years during this time worried about infecting a partner. But after 3 years of no symptoms I had unprotected sex. The next day a gential wart appeared. Is this coincidence or did friction cause a wart? Hard to understand why after 3 years of no warts..thanks

Hello blh34220 my friend,

Thank you for sharing. I also had small recurrences over about 5-6 years.

There could be various reasons why you had a recurrence after 3 years.

Sometimes the virus hides in a few cells and can become active after intercourse from micro abrasions and friction on the skin. I researched and perhaps. The viral load on your body can also be increased if you had intercourse and the other person also has a HPV strain - remember it is very common so they could be a carrier of a strain. Also there can be the occasion that more than one Genital Wart strain can be contracted too.

Overall my friend, I would say it could be one of several reasons. If you have been 3 years clear of any warts this is a good sign. It means your body is strong and can get on top of the virus to clear it.  Try not to worry, it will go and be gone for good.

Also positive news from Innovio who developed the Gardasil vaccine is that they are developing therapeutic vaccines for the HPV cancer types (not GW). But once these are developed they should be able to use the same technology for the GW types, there will certainly be a big demand too.

Here is a link to their clinical trials..

http://www.inovio.com/products/pipeline/

It says they are already looking for Aerodigestive cancer
HPV Type 6 ...

Its types 6 and 11 that are found in most genital warts... so we shouldn't be far away from a therapeutic vaccine. It will be an amazing day when all of these viruses can be wiped out for good!

In the meantime, keep your immune system strong and keep faith.

You are welcome to message me if you need more info on my health tips etc. and any other advice.

Hope that helps.

No wart from a new infection can appear within 24 hours of sex. Average time is 3-9 months. It has to be a previous infection that was caused by the un-safe sex. The CDC recommends condoms because latex condoms will prevent a re-occurrence of warts (from a previous infection). Not because it will prevent a new infection but because the friction and the thin-ness of the genital skin.
