LSIL and estrogen

Hello,
My pap smear result came LSIL. I had a regular exam with pap smear 7 months ago and it was negative. I had never have any positive results before. I am in a monogomous relationshipfor seven years. I am pretty sure about my partner.
Before the test I stopped using birth control pills which I started 7 months ago, I stopped because they caused spotting between my periods, now spotting gone. The pills that I have used were low hormone one which means no estrogen. Plus just before the pap smear, after I stop pills, my period was weird, no aching breasts etc, now it is also normal.
So my question is, I think obviously my hormone level was low, can LSIL be related to that?

A LSIL Pap usually means HPV but it could also be a Pap that was not read well. This drives me a little crazy and this is what increases health care costs, you did not need a Pap and now they will want to do more testing (and expensive testing) for something that is probably not needed. This is when too much testing can cause harm. They will want you to have a colposcopy just to make sure there is nothing wrong. Since you are at a university, if this is a teaching center I would make sure that this is done by an OB/Gyn and not a medical student or resident. I would discuss with the Dr. to see if you can wait 6 months to have a repeat Pap first because according to your history you appear to be at low risk. LSIL Paps usually means a transient HPV infection and this should clear in 6-12 months, maybe as long as 24 months if this a true HPV infection

Thanks for your response!
Well I am not menopausal. I am 29.
Actually I was in another country and recently moved to US for my Phd. I went to the doctor just to ask for a new birth control pill. However, she said that since I am there and it is free in university let's go ahead and make the pap smear...I am really terrified now though. They make colposcopy for every abnormal test and this increases stress...

I'm not sure why you had a Pap 7 months later. If your Pap was normal they are only supposed to be done every 2 years. The reason that they changed the testing timeframe several years ago is that the Pap is imperfect and the new liquid Pap often shows minor things that don't mean anything. Paps also have different risk with age groups. Since your Pap was LSIL you should have a repeat Pap in 6 to 12 months. An abnormal Pap can be caused by inflammation and minor infection. The fact that you stopped the pill should not cause the abnormal result unless you are menopausal and there are some changes at menopause that can cause the Pap to appear abnormal but it is really normal for that age group. In this case they often prescribe a vaginal estroegen cream.
