Protected anal sex. Should I get tested?

Hi, everyone. I'm a guy and I had condom protected anal sex more than a month ago, being receptive. I haven't noticed any symptom at all - should I get tested for HPV?

Thanks in advance! I hope someone can answer my question.

You will not spread it to your mother. Also, genital warts will not lead to cancer, it is a different type of HPV that leads to cancer which has no symptoms in men. The cancer causing strain is so common, it's more than likely your mother has had it at some point in her life.

The cancer causing strain can be detected through pap smears, and I don't think you should tell her to get tested because it is only spread through genital to genital contact.

I wouldn't worry, condoms nearly always protect against HPV. If you notice any bumps, get it looked at but I doubt your at risk.

Really? That's good news, because I've read very conflicting information about it. It sucks that there aren't test for men. What I'm worried about the most is the risk of transmitting it to my family, especially my mother since it would put her at risk of cancer.

What can I do about it? Should I tell her to get tested? When would it be a good idea considering I had this encounter 6 weeks ago?.

That's true, you can still have it and not show symptoms. You may have it but it's laying dormant in your system, or symptoms haven't appeared yet. Usually they appear in a matter of months.

You will only spread the virus by direct skin to skin contact, therefore not through towels etc

Thanks to both of you. I've read I could have it even if I don't have any genital warts. Can I transmit it to my family by sharing clothes or towels, or by any other non-sexual way?

Thanks in advance!.

Seeing as the sex was protected, you have a good chance you weren't at risk for catching HPV.

They do not do tests for HPV for men, the only way to know if you have it is if you have genital warts
