Tested positive for HPV

Hi, I tested positive for HPV right after having my son 3 months ago, but had a negative pap.  I was wondering if my just having a baby had brought on the HPV after being dormant in my system, what are the chances that it could go away again?  Is this HPV going to eventually cause cancer?  Also, I had just found a small, white fluid filled bump on the inside of my vagina, and it has popped, but the stuff that came out was really smelly, is this caused by the HPV and if so or not, what is it?  It was really sensitive, and I think I have a larger marble sized lump in the opening and down in my vagina also, but I'm not sure if that is normal or not.  I am really scared, please let me know what you think.  It is only saturday and my doctor's don't open till monday.  Thank you so much.

I had read that you can also get it by having oral sex as well.  How does this work?

We had had sex without protection obviously before I got pregnant and then after, but does this mean we can never have unprotected sex for fear of him catching this HPV?  And also, oral sex as well?

Thank you so much for responding.  I didn't know that pregnancy was considered something that lowers your immune system.  I had an abnormal pap about 9 years ago when I was pregnant with my son, but had no idea what was going on.  Now, having been told that I tested positive for the HPV without an abnormal pap, I am sorta connecting the dots and reading up on things.  I was told that I have HPV, the high risk kind that can cause cervical cancer.  It makes things a lot easier to bear to think that as long as I keep up with my pap tests, then I might head off any cancer that might develop.  I was confirmed having herpes also about 9 years ago, but the fluid filled bump was a lot larger than I had ever had, almost about the size of a peanut, but I guess that can be what it was, I didn't even consider that with the whole HPV thing hanging over my head.  I probably over reacted somewhat, but I guess that's to be expected.  But I would like to ask one other thing if possible.  I have been with the same partner for almost five years now, and he knows about my herpes, but thankfully by being extra careful I have never given it to him.  Now I'm confused about this HPV and how he may get it.  Obviously we haven't had much sex since I just had a baby 3 months ago and luckily around my 5th month I had sworn off sex completely.  But since having the baby, we did have sex once, and that was with a condom for fear of getting pregnant again.  Can I give him this HPV sexually?  I had read that you can also get it by having oral sex as well.  How does this work?  We had had sex without protection obviously before I got pregnant and then after, but does this mean we can never have unprotected sex for fear of him catching this HPV?  And also, oral sex as well?  I really appreciate any advice or info you can share.

You should check with your ob/gyn to confirm if that fluid filled bump inside your vagina is not herpes... the description matches the symptomos of herpes but i'm not sure... herpes are caused by Human Simplex Virus and have nothing to do with hpv Human Papilloma Virus...

HPV gets triggered during pregnancy because your immune system gets weaker... you didn't mention in your post as to which strain of hpv you are diagnosed with... is it low risk (wart causing) or high risk (cervical cell changing)... if it is low risk, you will never develop cancer at all... you will not develop cancer even if it is high risk strain and the lesions are treated, you will never develop cervical cancer if you are regularly screened through pap tests... don't lose your sleep over it just keep a yearly exam and follow up with your doctor and forget the cervical cancer...

Hpv infection has everything to do with your immune system and being that pregnancy wreaks havoc on your immune system, it's definitely possible.

Your hpv infection going away depends on how you live your life. Lead a healthy lifestyle, eat healthy, avoid alcohol and drugs, exercise, and take your vitamins. That is the very best you can do for yourself :)

The bump you described does not sound like it has anything to do with hpv at all. Hpv typically has no symptoms (aside from genital warts of course if you had that type). You may want to check into bartholin cyst. Read some information on it and see if it sounds familiar. Good luck :)

Btw, keep in mind cervical cancer caused by hpv infection is a slow process.
