High diastolic

I have had a high diastolic for the past 7 years.  My typical readings are 132/96 or 136/101.  Currently I am on 25mg of HCTZ and just put on low dose Bystolic.  My readings at home are 110/85.  I been on every med combo and stil cant get the bottom number down.

You won't die of a stroke with a diastolic in the 90's.   If it was well over 110 consistently, yes, then you are at risk of a stroke.  

My father has had diastolic in the 90's since Basic Training in the army.   He is 80 years old...its just what his number is.  

You are 50.  A diastolic in the 80's is just fine, and when you see a doctor, it sounds like you are experiencing "white coat syndrome" which means your BP goes up...but it is temporary.   Again, let me stress...you aren't in stroke range by any stretch of the imagination.

How is your overall health?  Do you exercise?  Smoke?

I just turned 50 but it's been like this since I was 39 and possibly earlier.  At home my pressure is usually within normal limits but the bottom number is usually in the mid low to mid 80's, when I go to the store or doctors the diastolic is in the high 90's to 100's.  They panic. but when I am home it's super low, so if they over medicate me I faint and get sick, if they dont I will end up dying of a stroke.

How old are you honey?

The old line thinking used to be that the bottom number HAD to be under 80.  That has changed.    My diastolic is always in the 80's, (on meds) and my doctor told me it is just fine.

You could try exercise (30 mins a day) cutting out salt, losing weight...but I'm not sure if you're already doing those things.  

110/85 is not going to harm you.  It may be the pressure your body exists at...
