Very High BP

I’m 71 yo and weigh 220. I’m 5’11” so am 30-40 pounds overweight. I’m pretty active and feel healthy. Over the past 20 years I’ve had BP measurements of between 235- 210 / 110-90. I have a cuff BP monitor and take my readings at home frequently now. The readings are many times 185/90, of course they vary but are always high. I’ve come to think this is normal and when I get a reading around 150/85 I think I’m doing well.
I was prescribed 100MG of Labetalol taken 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at night. I’ve taken 1/2 so far and my BP went to 130/79 but I feel VERY spaced out. I have something to do tomorrow and cannot do it if I feel this way.
I’m just looking for other people’s reactions to taking medications.

Hi.  Well, the good news is that med worked so well for you so quickly!  Bad that you have a side effect. I've not yet started any medication for my borderline bp.  What I have read about the particular medication you are on is that you describe a common way people feel when first starting the medicine but that it is short lived and these type of side effects go away.  My suggest is to maybe see if you can just stick it out a week or two to see if that is the case for you.  I hope so since the med had such a dramatic effect!  Let me know how it goes. I'm on my way to medication myself in the near future, I'm sure.
