I crave sodium all the time, but do not know why. I am already borderline Hypertensive and take medication. So, that makes me wonder why do I crave something that can potentially increase my hypertension and I know I do not need excessive amounts of.

Hello and welcome to MedHelp's forums.  Thanks for your question and it is a good one.  Working with your doctor is always a good idea especially if there is something like borderline hypertension.  Their guidance is best.

Salt cravings are pretty common.  I feel your pain with them as I have them too.  Often it is simply due to stress, lack of sleep and boredom.  But there also can be underlying issues like dehydration, excessive sweating, hormonal issues, etc.  This article discusses the reasons why we may crave salt.

Here is an article on reducing hypertension naturally.  Number two on the list, ironically, is to reduce sodium. I'd try to follow what you can of the list with guidance from your doctor to see if it impacts your BP numbers.  https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/318716.php
