Why is my systolic so high?? I'm 24 yrs old!

As of today I have been monitoring my Bp one during the day and once at night. My systolic has constantly been in the 140's-150's/70's pulse is around lower 60's. I am on two medications for hypertension...losartan 100mg/hctz and sprolactone 25 mg.

I was diagnosed with LVH (1.5 thickness) in 2013 heart echo from my cardiologist. Everything else was normal. I do keep regular appointments but it feels like there only solutions is mess rather than find the cause..(if there is one) it's frustrating.

I'm active, 6'3 not over weight, non smoker otherwise known to be healthy. I did notice I can only hold my breath for 25 secs before gasping...not sure if this can be related to an underlying issue. I've had a kidney renal test, blood tests, urine tests, cardiac enzymes test, stress test (by local doctor did not take blood pressure during it or after it just before it which it was 164/78) I was nervous but it's still high usually. All these come back fine.

Few quick questions...does LVH of my degree elevate systolic Bp? How long can I live with Bp like this if there's not a solution? I'm 24 years old should I take multiple meds or should I ask to switch them around because if the previous meds doesn't normalize it then why take the plus an added pill?

Thank to all who read this, a reply would be greatly appreciated with some knowledge insight on the subject I will be watching this post. Thanks and godbless

Hi, just wanted to say real fast that my sister AND my husband have both been diagnosed with high blood pressure in the past. Additionally, both of them were found to have completely normal blood pressure once the correct size blood pressure cuff was used on them when measuring blood pressure.... Just a thought! If you're not sure why you have high blood pressure, and are otherwise healthy, ask your doctor/nurse if they could try a more appropriate size cuff (for my sister and husband, they needed a bigger size cuff) and see if that changes results.

I stated it but had a reaction to the calcium channel blockers after three days so I stopped taking them is why I didn't include them in the list of meds. Sorry

I want to point out a little confusion I have. You have in your post above that you take the 2 meds, (Spiro plus the combo tablet of Losartan & HCTZ). But on your post of 24th of October last, you question about a Calcium Channel blocker which you say your taking also? Just thought i would ask as im confused to be honest

All docs usually say keep the exercise going. That's often the first thing said.
Watch your blood potassium with the Spiro, it needs regular watching. Also have a blood test for Adrenal issues (Aldosterone level). It is often said that BP that goes up at night is a marker for possible secondary causes. Usually BP dips a it at night, but just sometimes it can be the reverse . I think this is call a reverse dipper by the docs. If the doc says the exercise is fine you have to go with that. Remember Im just an ordinary Joe, but he is a trained medic!!

This did help and I appreciate your advice. I will request for an update on the echo and a ambp but I do have a good monitor at home which I take my Bp twice a day (day night). I hope my LVH has improved, it would be a blessing. Yes I take the 3 meds listed above although the losartan/hctz is a combo pill as one.

I have done some secondary testing. Kidney renal, Aorta scan with die to bake sure there was no narrowing, other than that I've done blood tests and urine tests for protien back when I had the echo 2 years ago all was normal

I would think you should do the following;
Go to your doctor & get a 24 AMBP test. this will give the 24  hour bp average.
Request an up to date echo test to be done. Its been 2 years since last one. Your probably improved a bit due to meds you take. Sometimes raised bp causes the lvh. Also is it 3 meds you take? Losartan, Hctz (A diuretic) and Spiro (a Diuretic, Potassium sparing type). Revisit things with the cardio till you are happy. They probably consider 150 ish as not too bad for systolic. But the next thing will be double the dose of some of the meds!! Also did you get tested for secondary causes of bp? eg Pheo or Conns syndrome? worth a few tests just in case. both could be sorted. How long are you on this particular regieme of tablets? Make a list of questions and go backo cardio. Hope this helps
