Your question does not state your age and whether or not your ovaries were removed. This information would be useful in answering your question. Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is not warranted if you are premenopausal and have retained at least one ovary. In a patient who has her ovaries surgically removed while premenopausal HRT is often considered secondary to side effects to include but not limited to increased risk of osteoperosis, cardiovascular disease and menopausal symptoms. In the already postmenopausal patient the decision on whether or not to start HRT is more patient variant and risk factors should be considered. Likewise, in accordance with current guidelines HRT should be administered at the lowest effective dose with planned discontinuation date. Vitamins have not been proven to be effective in improving medical conditions indicative of menopause. Regards, Erich T. Wyckoff, MD, FACOG
After my hysterectomy, my doctor did not put me on hormones because she said I was too young. Within 5yrs I had 2 kinds of arthritis and hyperthyroidism and have been battling health problems ever since. Take your hormones...or at least natural vitamins and herbs that will directly keep your hormone levels up or you may regret it!
