Does having fybriod lead to hysterectomy?

Hi
I am approaching my 36th birthday, and just recently discovered by a visit to my gynocologist that there may be a possibility I have developed fybroids inside my uterus.  My gyna asked me during the past year after having a pap smear if my previous doctor noticed any abnormal tissue growth. He then told me that my uterus felt enlarged, and has now since ordered an ultra sound.  I am not afraid yet, but am starting to become anxoius about the treatment if any after the ultrasound.  If I do have to have surgery, I would most definitely prefer Hysteroscopy. Also if this does lead to hysterectromy, I would  prefer that they remove my uterus by way of my vagina instead of the old fashion way.  To my understanding it helps the body to heal much faster.  Long story short I have only experienced minor complications.  ie. constipation, and frequent unrination. My cycles are approximately 3 days without pain.  I feel great.   I am hoping to avoid  having a hysterectomy all together if possible.  Let me know what the my chances are.

Hi all,in general it depends on how many fibroids, there size and the amount of pain and or extra bleeding it causes you.//

1. Leupron injections...induce chemical menopause..theory the fibroids will shrink..problem is Leupron can cause very serious depression bad crying spells etc..My surgeon said women have come to his office crying begging to be taken off it.

2. myoectomy..sometimes the fibroid can be removed itself, either abdominal, Lap or trans vaginal...usually a crynaosurgery ( uses extreame cold to remove)

3. a Hysterectomy..I got a grin off second posters comments on getting back to normal and havig a sex life again...that happens to many post hyster. some claim just the oppisite...no desire.Personally I know that can be taken care of w proper HRT.

to third poster,

there are so many female problems that are way worse than fibroids..not deminishing your suffering just trying to help you understand that I know you are afraid. Worse case senerio is hysterectomy. It will relieve your pain . It is non life threatining. Look into a DaVinci Robotic Hyster if you must get one...very least incisions..less bleeding and shorter healing time

Hi, I smiled as I read your comment.  Thank you so much for your comforting support.  As I had mentioned, Im not afraid yet.  I have had similiar illness throughout my life, one of them being cancer.  I will not ever be able to have children, because I am considered high risk.  I guess that I am feeling a little anxious not know what my results are going to be after the ultrasound.  However, I do choose to take the path that you were given if it is an option.  So thank you again.  I look forward to being able to move forward with my life after this is all said and done.  I also look forward to more mind blowing sex if there is such a thing LOL.
