Hi,

Sorry but I have to disagree with the other posts. My doctor has told me it is possible for your ovary to re-grow once removed if a tiny piece of it was left behind. It is then able to re-generate into a fully functional ovary. This has just happened to me and I am in shock. I had a full hysterectomy 4 years ago. After experiencing some pain, went for an internal ultrasound and found out that one of my ovaries has re-generated, now producing oestrogen, which has caused my endo to return giving my 3 cysts on my new ovary. I would never have thought this was possible. My Dr is less than impressed, and we are waiting to hear back from my Consultant Gynae!  Oh to be a man. :-)

Hi

Actually there is a syndrome called partial ovary syndrome....meaning a sm portion of ovary could have accidently been left in and cyst could grown on it.....also another thing is you may have a cyst on scar tissue where ovary used to be it would be difficult to tell until Dr actually opens up or does laproscopic (go for that type) surgery to see,

best wishes

Cherie

Ovaries can not grow back but is it possible ovaries weren't removed?

Not sure what country you are in but in the UK hysterectomies usually only remove the womb in  women that have not yet reached menopause. Obviously it depends upon the reason but a total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (removal of both ovaries) is rarely carried out.

You need to ask your Dr exactly what was removed during your hysterectomy. If both ovaries were removed then the Dr has screwed up or thats not an ovary showing on the scan.
