How Can I Turn Down The Heat?

I had a complete hysterectomy done 4 yrs. ago and suffered the hot flashes and night sweats. I treated that with HRT for quite a while until I felt it was under control and then came off. The past 6 mos. the flashes have been back and just aweful. I'm sweating like a maniac and have acne to boot. Does anyone know what's good to use that's non-prescription and not hard on the liver? I'm already on a lot of medicine and I don't want to go back on the hormones if I can find an effective alternative.

In Chritiane Northrups book on the wisdom of menopause she says Anxiety and tension can magnify hot flashes as well as eating too many simple sugars and refined carbs.  She recommends a 2% progesterone skin cream 1/4 tsp rubbed into the skin once a day.  (However, I am still trying to find out if progesterone cream is safe for women without a uterus) She suggests meditation and relaxation also.  And to add soy foods (45-160 mg of soy isoflavones per day)also herbs like black cohosh, **** quai, or chaste berry. The cream I have is by Emerita and you can buy it in natural food stores or online.Hope this helps

Where do you find estronatural? That's a good idea about the hair. My hair is long and it does get aggravating after a while when I'm really hot.

When are you going in for your hysterectomy? I hope it goes well for you.

I haven't had my hyster yet, but I know how hot you feel. I have found that the over the counter estronatural helps me but it does take a month to start working.
Hope you feel better soon. Oh and try taking cool showers, avoid hot lights, and if your hair is long keep it off your neck. Keeping your neck cool helps alot.
