Hysterectomy at 28

I am scheduled for a Total Hysterectomy in mid-April. Initally when I decided to do the procedure I thought it would be a permenant birth control solution and give me seven days of my life back a month. However, I've done some research and have begun to question my decision. There are a lot of horor stories out there. I am also unsure about the research because the sample sizes are often so small in the studies.

Questions I have to people who have been through it:
What complications have you or other you know experieced: Bladder damage, control issues - Bowel damage or obstruction - Experiences 30 + years after surgery issues - premature ovarian failure - nerve damge - hormone issues?

All advice is welcomed

Ovaries dont fail,,they do decline in hormones upon menopause and its easier on body to go threw a slow menopause than a surgically induced one.

The only possible problems w retaining ovaries is possibility of ovarian cance, cysts or scar or endo tissue becoming attached to ovaries,,,these can all be corrected w the possible cancer..if it does not run in family and you dont smoke have had a CA125 blood test ..its more in your favor..

Let me know how your hyster goes..make sure you follow drs orders its really inportant..I folded one basket of towels a week post op and it sent me into agony ,.,you will need to be a couch potatoe for atleast 3 weeks then very slowly ease back into things.

suggestion..buy a ice pack..very good for placing on pelvic area..dont use heat it will make you swell and bleed.

best wishes

As mentioned above the hysterectomy will be performed for heavy menstration (give me seven days of my life back) and permenant birth control. The ovaries will be conserved. Are they prone to failure later in life is a nagging question.

why arre you having a hysterectomy?

total hyster would remove your ovaries, so they could not fail..bladder or bowel damage is a common side effect of removal of fibroids, do you have these?  30plus years chances are very very low. nerve damage..surgical error only....hormone issues yes,,bio identical hormone supplements help alot with that,

I need to know why you are having this surgery to help more!!!
