I agree with Cherie, the ovaries out is worse than the uterus, but of course its still a big surgery. I did it the other way, uterus 8 yrs ago, and ovaries 4 months ago. At least you are over all the hormone part of it, and can concentrate on the surgical recovery only. Best of luck, and rest rest rest.
Hi Z...really most negative effects happen from ovary removal and you have already been through that,
expect pain..they will give you narcotic meds...ask Dr about stool softner..narcotics are bindiing you dont want to be constipated post surgery.
btw I had a DiVinci robotic assisted hyster..best least invasive method..try not to get a trans abdominal..
be ready..prepare meals that can be froozen and have someone pull out and cook for you.have loose comfy clothes ready..gowns are good or loose waist sweats, pjs.
you need to be a couch potatoe..it will help you to heal. have a new book ready..have someone rent a few movies, you will be lyind down first week ..Do NOT take a hot shower or bath..heat increases bleeding and swelling..for first week I advise a sink clean up,,face , armpits and you know what.
a icepack helps a lot with pain,,on 15 min off 15 min,, You will likely have trapped gas in pelvic cavity..walk it out..dont do stairs just walk around what ever area you can on main floor. laying on left side helps too.
you may spot red, pink then browsinsh (old blood) nothing to worry about unless your soaking a pad..call DR if you use just a panty liner its usually noting to worry about.
if you develop fever above 101 , have foul smell from incision or vaginal area,,,any yellow discharge, or green from any site Phone Dr immediatley..if he is not available go to ER
Hope these tips help
you have really been through the worst w ovaries removed..expect a 6 week recover from hyster.
