Simple Trachelectomy experience

When I was 21, I received results from my Pap smear tbat they came back abnormal and I'll eventually have to go through treatment. I was on taxotere for a few months because of my Pap smear with positive results for SIL (Squamous intraepithelial lesion) on the outer part of my cervix, lost a bit of my hair and weight due to the taxotere. All of this was an effort to be a precancerous patient and avoid any further complications. . I'm currently going through my final stages and I have to get a laparoscopic trachelectomy. I looked on YouTube at videos and I've had other surgeries surrounding my ovaries. I'm wondering if any of you ladies have gone through this surgery and if so, what was the recovery and post-op care like. Will I still get a period? Will my sex drive still be there? I was told to start birth control before starting the surgery, any ideas asides from controlling my period as to why I would need to be on birth control?

Have you gotten a copy of your colposcopy / biopsy results? What grade was / is the lesion? Low grade lesions almost always resolve on their own. And some moderate grade ones do too. Cervical cancer typically takes many years to develop from abnormal cells. What surgeries did you have for your ovaries - cyst removals?

Removal of part or all of the cervix can impair fertility and cause premature labor. The cervix appears to play a role in sexual function so your sex drive and ability to orgasm may be adversely impacted. You would still get a period if your uterus is not removed (hysterectomy).

Have you gotten or considered getting a second opinion?

I'm sorry for all that you are going through. I have had a complete hysterectomy when I was 29 so I have some experience with this.
Post op recovery for laparoscopic surgery is relatively short but everyone is different.  My 1  laparoscopy had me down for about a week and a half w/ just some lingering discomfort.
Again, everyone responds differently but to be honest there is a chance of some short term sex div issues. A chance.
The reason for the birth control is that when you have your ovaries removed, your going to need Hormone Replacement Therapy ( HRT ) to keep your Hormones in balance. Our ovaries help tell the brain what "nature chemicals" to send out to your body. Without them HRT is standard and once the right BC & dose is achieved you should be able to avoid the worst parts of this operation such as hot flashes, nigh sweats & sleeplessness. You can also talk to your Dr about soy based products sold OTC ( which is what I did ).
