Vaginal Incisions????

I am having a "Lap assisted vaginal hysterectomy". I am just wondering if anyone knows how it works to remove the uterus vaginally. Do they make incisions or use laser or other tools. I know there will be stitching inside but not really sure if they make external incisions. I do have this on my list of questions for the dr but that won't be until the 23rd. Just wondering if any of you may know. Thanks...Lynn

y one piece of advice I would give you is "stool softeners"  use them every day, and you will be glad you did. :)  Colace or the generic brand of colace, is good.

Cherie...thanks...yeah it is very helpful. I was hoping it would be internal. It will all be invasive enough without cutting me up there too...lol.

Houser...thanks....it sound like great advice. I am getting good at sitting around healing up. I have had 3 surgeries on my right foot over the last 13 months. Just in the final healing phase of the last one so it is becoming routine...LOL.

I just had a Lap assisted vaginal hysterectomy four weeks ago and I did not have external stitches vaginally. I do suggest though that you really do what the Dr suggests though. I am 32 years old and over all very healthy. I came home from the hospital with pneumonia so I was very sick for about a week however I thought I was starting to feel better so I got up and started to do things and to my surprise I was doing too much (Even though I hardly did anything) and the stitches internally started pulling apart. Even though you think you are starting to feel better your body does require alot more time to heal. So take it easy and relax for a while. Good luck to you!

They normally make 3 abdominal incisions, somtimes they suture them or use surgical glue one is on each side somwhat near where you would expect your ovaries to be and the third is in the navel, they insert steel tall straw looking devices into these incisions they fill the abdomen with gas and lift up the skin almost like a tepee, the camera can be inserted into any of these "straws" as well as surgical instruments.

As for the uterus it is removed transvaginally, after the uterus has been freed of all inside vascular and muscle structures, they cut around the cervix and simply invert the uterus and cervis and pull it out through the vagina. this obviously leaves a big opening at the top of your vagina, a cervical " cuff" is created this is  a way the surgeons have of suturing (yes lots of sutures_ the vaginal towards the topa as to give it a nice cicular like top instead of a point or a straight across stitch,

Any outside stitches you have will be minor, likely dissolvable and covered with steri strips, make sure to leave the steri strips alone they will fall off on their own when ready,
