Vivelle-dot

I had a hysterectomy in October 2009, I was put on the vivelle-dot patch. I'm on the lowest dose (0.05mg). I change the patch twice a week.

I had my yearly mamogram (which has always been normal). I picked up the report today and it says:

Findings: Dense and hetergenous breast parenchyma is again observed with minor asymmetry. Allowing for some differences of technique and positioning, there is an apparent new 7 mm irregular density in the medial tissues of the left breast seen on the craniocaudal view. This cannot be identified on previous exams. Repeat craniocaudal view as well as spot compression views are advised to see if this persists.

No pathologic calcifications.

Impression: New 7 mm density medially in left breast which needs further imaging evalution as discussed above.

Does anyone know what this means? I called my doctor who hasn't called me back yet. Could this patch have something to do with this? Isn't 7 mm big? Is it a 7mm mass or what?

My obgyn said I don't have to use the patch if I don't want to but my regular doctor said that because I'm under 50 years old, I need estrogen. She said once I turn 50, I don't have to use it anymore. Who's right? I don't want to use the patch if it's going to cause other problems.

I'm a nervous wreck.

Any information will be apprecated.

Thank you

Bernice

Septation means a fine fibrous membrane. So it sounds like the two cysts are connected but have a membrane between them. Remar

Hi Bernice. I don't know what septation means but I'll do my best to find out. Cysts are not that uncommon in women. My mother had to have several removed and they were benign. Has your Dr mentioned a fine needle biopsy? Remar

Thank you. I had an ultrasound today. This is what it says:

Findings: Ultrasound reveals 3 small cysts in the medial tissues of the left breast, one in the upper quadrant, one in the mid portion, and one in the lower quadrant. These appear benigh, although the margins of the upper and mid breast cysts are a bit irregular with possible septations. These are all small measuring about 3-4 mm in size.

No focal solid lesions are demonstrated sonographically.

Impression: Three tiny cysts in the medial tissues of the left breast. At least one of these most likely accounts for the new density seen there on the resent mammograms. Because of the irregular cyst contours and possible septations in 2 of these cysts, 6-month surveillance sonography and mammograms of the left breast are recommended.

I'm a nervous wreck. Do you know what septation means?

You can try going off the patch, it does'nt matter what age you are. You may experience hot flashes and mood swings.
Your Dr really needs to give you an answer about what's going on.
I wish I could tell you if this is caused from the patch  but I can't. This may have happened whether you were on the patch or not.
Will you please let us know what you find out? We're here for you. Remar
