Pain in left side

I had a hysterectomy in Aug. 2009.  on the third day, the incision broke open (no infection)  starting on the left side, but the wound leaked a lot  for 3 weeks , then it took about 3 months for the incision to fully heal.   For a while I had pain in the  left side whenever I went for the prone position.  That is almost all gone now.  However, if I pick up a heavy object, the left side seems very sore and sensitive ( the skin seems sensitized ) and there is pain.  I have an 18 month old grandchild and when I babysite( and pick him up frequently) the next  day my stomach is sore and sensitie on the left  side.  I had an ultrasoind and a CT with contrast and they say there is no weakness in the abdominal wall.

Should I just live with it, or what else shoudl I do?

Thanks.  It is hard to get a diagnosis.  The surgeon is totally through--he doesn't want to hear about pain because I was the 1 case a year who had  severe issues with the wound healing, he said.  And my primary care did the CT with contrast and found no problem. The sensitivity only happens after I pick up something heavy, like the  grandchild or recently, a small microwave to move it.  The skin almost feels painful to touch.  Weird.

you sure should not live with it, an MRI or more likely a diagnostic laproscopy would be your best bet, Im guessing you may had addhesions, these are often difficult to diagnose , a diagnostic lap your doc could physically see it addhesions or perhaps scar tissue are the problem , both of those two possibilitys could be dealt with .

as far as your skin being desensitised from the surgical scar bursting, I would suggest seeing a dermatologist.

Dont give up its hard to get a diagnosis but I hate to see anyone live with pain, there is for certain an answer you just need to advocate , be persistant even pushy if needed dont take " I don't know " for an answer from docs,,ask "what shall I do next, I must be diagnosed".
