If you do get to keep your ovaries then you may not need hormones. This something you and your Dr will have to decide.
I think your going to be happy to be out of pain once your surgery and recovery time is over. I can understand being in constant pain. It does effect your whole life.
Stick to Drs orders and don't do anything for 6 weeks. Of course you don't have to lay in bed that whole time. Just take things easy. No stairs, heavy lifting or sex. Before surgery you might want to cook some meals and freeze them. Easy things that can be popped in the microwave like chili and spaghetti. You can just add a salad and you have an easy meal. Buy yourself some books and magazines and have your husband or a friend pick up some movies for you the day you come home. Lean on family and friends if they offer to help with your kids and the housework.

Thanks for responding!
I have Adenomyosis, its when the lining of the uterus grows into the muscle of the uterus, the doctor decribes it as like a uturus inside a uterus, or a hot piece of coal irritaing my uterus!
I bleed heavily and am in constant pain!
I have to have abdominal surgery as my uterus is to enlarged to take it away by any other means.
Im awaiting a date for surgery, ive seen one consultant who said, " its not terminal you will be ok to wait" (a man) then I saw another consultant who said she wanted to get it done as soon as possible. I have two wonderful children and a great husband, but still im finding it very hard to come to grips with, today ive just burst into tears for no apparent reason.
I would appreciate any help or advice!

Can you say why you need a hysterectomy? What kind of surgery are you having. Will it be a complete hysterectomy? Sorry for all the questions but the more we know the better we can help you. I did'nt gain any weight after my surgery. Make sure you eat well and exercise. You'll need 6 weeks of recovery time. That means no heavy lifting, no stairsno sex and plenty of rest. You may need hormones if you have hot flashes or mood swings, this is something you can discuss with your Dr. Some women have a better sex life after the surgery because they don't have any more pain. I had mine done because of severe endometriosis and was very happy to be out of pain. We're here to help in any way we can. When is your surgery scheduled for?  Remar
