I am experiencing the same thing. I had LAVH full on 8/14/2012 and the last 2 times I was with my partner I have been very sensitive at the cuff. So tonight I did like you and felt up there and felt the hard thread. My partner hasn't mentioned it but like you I'm concerned. Will it dissolve or fall out and how long will it take?
I had a robotic laproscopic hysterectomy and they removed my cervix on lmay 31st this year and healed well. My doctor is on vacation until Oct 3rd and I can't see her until Oct 10th. My question is I felt inside of me and felt stitches that feels like hard thread. My husband said when we have sec that he can feel the thread and that it hurts him. I thought that the were suppose to use dissolving thread. Also when I felt up there yesterday it feels like one of the thread is hanging loose and the thread is hard. Is this normal?
You are lucky !!!! your wound could have opened,,,usually by day 10 most are pretty well closed 14 days is better...
Im really glad your ok....any menopausal symptoms that bother you?
Its really nice for me when women write back to say how they are, thank you !!
hang in there your close to being back to normal...still take it a bit easy..the first time of intimacy after hyster is kinda well for me it was nervous feeling...made hubby be really carefull...once you are confident it gets better.
big hugs
Cherie
Thank-you again everyone for your support and info.. I finally saw my gyn and I guess my body didn'tlike the stches and rejected them... I am also incredibly lucky because I guess I'm a really fast healer and have been taking it easy so so far so good! I have two and a half weeks to go!
Hi, I can try to help !!! I do know the answer for the vaginal sutures, when you have a LAVH, the cervix is removed, as well as uterus, they have to make whats called a "surgical cuff" it is a top most point of vagina where cervix used to be. they create a flap of skin and sew it so it makes a natural roundness at top of vagina..those sutures are disolavable and fall out or dissapear at various rates.
I am not sure what your describing could be slings for .bladder.. such that the knots rest against the rectus fascia. ... It heals at a different pace for all, Id reccomened that you phone your surgeons office, he must have a partner on standby or the office staff should be able to recommened someone.
Since your doctor is unavailable and I now understand you had lavh and rectal repair...Id like you to watch for signs of infection, fever 100.5 plus,,,,(they say 101 but lets be safe) any rash on surgical site, redness, hot feeling on skin of surgical area...bleeding bright red from rectum or vagina..other than small drop amounts, I mean similar to a light day of menses. get to er. In general no worries on brown blood, if it concerns you do phone dr, gp or hopsital where you had surgery.
Thank-you for your comments I do feel alot better!! I did have the LAVH and the stitches are dissolvable. The other day I was concerned so I looked for anything on the net letting me know when I should expect these stitches to dissolve and all the answers I could find were saying 5-6 weeks! That's why I was so upset. I really appreciate the support you all gave me. What I wasn't thinking about last time is that I also had some sort of vaginal/rectal surgery and now all the stitches going to my rectum are gone so I assume they were supposed to be gone by now!
I do have another question now... since my gyn is on vacation... for the LAVH is that why I have stitches in my vagina or would that be the rectal surgery? I also got the bladder sling... when will those two tight little knots be gone... They hurt!
Sincerly,
Stampspice
Hi There !!
I understand your concern, most likely they were disolvable stitches, and the time they fall out ( not all do actually disolve, Ive had some fall out for vag and rectal surgery) Its ok it was blood tinged, It would hurt to get vag sutures removed and Dr would not want to create extra trauma.
did you have the LAVH? I am assuming not transabdominal since no mention of staples, I alson assume not DaVinci cause all sutures are internal they use steri tape for external 1/4 to 1/2 incisions,
So no worries !!!
The only time to be concerned is if you spike a 101 or more fever or should you bleed hard like soak a pad in a hr,,if that happens get to er.......remember no sex till dr says ok.
hugs
Cherie...also rest still till Doc says you can resume some normal activities.
If they aren't dissolvable stitches, it seems like you should be getting those stitches out! Also, since you have a gyn, and this is a hysterectomy forum, I'm assuming your female. You may want to change your profile to reflect that. They used dissolvable stitches internally for my hysterectomy and removed the external staples before I left the hospital (three day stay).
Its all about how the body heals. Some heal very quickly than others. It could also be that your body doesn't do well with foreign objects and its rejecting it. Either way its just a sign that your body knows what its doing as far as trying to heal itself. If the ER docs said everything looked fine then I'm sure your only concern is that the healing is happening too fast and that could never be too fast of a process but it could be a slow one. Which would your prefer?
Hope that helped ;))
