Moody Mommy's Guide to Going Green on the Cheap

Here are the things I use to clean around my house

Oxiclean - The cheap brand
White Vinegar
Baking Soda
Lemon Juice
Rubbing Alcohol
Castile Soap
Kool-aid or any brand drink mix (the no sugar small packets)
Two good spray bottles
Lots of rags
tooth brush -child size works best
old butter knife

Glass and Multi Purpose Cleaner:
Spray Bottle
3 cups water
8 TBSP Lemon Juice
1 TBSP Rubbing Alcohol

Carpet Cleaner:
One scoop oxiclean per gallon in the tank of the cleaner.  Clean as normal.
Then rinse the carpet with a cup of white vinegar per gallon in the tank.
The vinegar will only give of the smell when wet and when it dries it takes away other smells just like febreeze.
The vinegar will also keep the moist carpet from mildewing.

Household cleaner for bathroom and cabinets:
Spray bottle
3 cups water
3 tbsp lemon juice
2 tbsp castile soap
This works well on walls, baseboards, cabinets, countertops, etc.

Cleaning the toilet bowl.
1pkg Kool-aid (lemon works best)
sprinkle of baking soda
let sit an hour or more then swish as flush.

Dish washer:
Use white vinegar instead of a rinse agent.  Works just as good and way cheaper ($2 a Gallon)

Bleach out stained sinks:
One scoop of oxiclean to each sink and fill to the top with hot water.
Let sit an hour to overnight.  Drain and rinse.
scrub with baking soda if needed.

Bathtub:
Sprinkle with a generous amount of baking soda and moisten with the household cleaner containing the castile soap.
scrub as normal.

For bad tubs fill as high as possible and add 3 scoops oxiclean and two cups vinegar.  Let sit.  Rinse and scrub as listed above.

To clean a dirty dishwasher run unloaded using a pkg of lemonaid koolaid.  This with remove odors and stains.  You can also use this on plastics that are stained and developing a smell (old tupperware anyone).

This is great! Thank you. I hate using too many chemicals around my house. Don't give a damn about me, but don't want dog to have chemicals up her nose!

I think it's easier using these recipes instead of  cleaning with the chemical solvents.  I'm not as tired and when I'm done I don't have a headache from the fumes.  I too hate housework but until Rosie the Robot gets dropped off at my house I guess I have to do it. LOL

I particularly like that toilet cleaning tip.

If Mr Peek complains to much in the future, he'll be served some ice cold "Toilet Punch".

If the dog drinks out of the toilet before you flush no problems.
