Rotarix & Pneumococcal @ 28 weeks

My baby boy received the first and only dose of rotarix last friday(20/02/2009). He is having reddish rashes over his face and from today morning he had slight fever of 99 degrees F. In India immunisation schedule does not include Rotavirus & Pneumococcal. But due to doctor's insistence we agreed to give him the doses, although lately. Doctor is asking to give him one more Pneumocoaccal after baby attains 12 months age. My query is what is the reason behind this allergic reaction? Is it due to improper timing? & what else can be done now?( Shall we follow normal immunisation schedule? next due is Measels at 9 months in case of normal vaccination)

I forgot to address the pneumococcal. My granddaughter had a bad reaction to that so we do not give it to her.  But again, you are in a different country and what is prominent there may not be here.  I do not know how many shots they get for pneumococcal but if he reacted not right to that tell your MD. You are the ultimate decider not your MD.  Not all vaccinations work for every child.

I live in the US and we do things different here.  Firstly you have a choice whether to immunize and which ones you want.   From the description you gave it does not sound like a bad reaction as far as fever, but the rash is not good.  He may be allergic to the medication in the vaccine.  Measles shot at 9 mos is early, They give it here in a combo at 15 mos old. Measles Mumps rubella. I am not sure since you are in a different country and there is a greater risk for measles there.  That may be why he is getting it at such a young age.  I would talk it over with the MD and remember it is your child and if you do not feel right than go with what you feel. Hope this helps.
