Agoraphobia

There have been 96 responses to the discussion started May 13 about agoraphobia in the anxiety forum.  My gut feeling is that there are a lot of lurkers on that forum who read some of the discussion who could see themselves in the responses.  I started that discussion because of a friend who has been housebound for seven years.  I was hoping that I could get some insight from the discussion as to why some can be agoraphobic and yet still able to have some quality of life and leave their homes etc. while others like my friend, can't. I really wanted to hear from those people who are housebound but few of them responded.

It is my opinion that this area of anxiety is more prevalent than we can imagine and a forum just for agoraphobics might be a consideration worth investigating.  If they had their own forum, maybe more will feel comfortable enough to come forward, get some ideas or, at the very least, realize that they are not alone and that there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

I look forward to your comments on this suggestion.

I also agree that a forum just for agoraphobics would be worth investigating. I know there are many out there that come here for help and support, myself being one. I do not see many posts on this topic. Sorry to hear about your friend, I have been there too!! I was housebound for many years, then was able to live a somewhat life, going out, traveling, shopping, parties..etc. I'm recently in a  set back and feel stuck at square one which is hard for me to grasp at this time. I know baby steps must be taken but I want to take leaps and bounds and be where I was before the setback. I think I'm in denial and too stubborn to admit that I'm back in the same place I swore I never wanted to be.
