HCV Forums

Hi I have seen many times where someone will reply to a very old post.  I guess they are searching for help and reply to a post that is from 2005. I have done it myself:)  I was searching another site and I noticed that the old posts on other forums (i.e. the breast cancer) do not allow one to automatically reply.  There is a "continue this discussion" at the bottom of the old post so that it makes you realize this is an old post.
I value the older posts, they have really helped me in the past and I do believe they are important.  If a new person responds to an old post, doesn't get an answer they feel frustrated and go elsewhere.
Thank you
Dee

Thanks, Dee!

This is something we will discuss, and possibly add at some point.

Thanks, as always, for taking the time to share your suggestions.

I wanted to come back to say that I am hoping these suggestions are a result of my recovering from the HCV and the tx and looking outward to what could help others following behind..
I appreciate the answers very much

Hi there! Thanks so much I just came across it again in another forum where it is an older post and at the end it says "continue discussion" which is good idea to remind people that it is an older post.

I find myself getting so engrossed in an older post that I forget it is old then I respond.

Thanks so much for your response :)

Hi, Dee,

Not confusing at all, and it's a great suggestion. :)  This is a feature that's limited to certain areas of our site, but it would be great if it were more widely available.  Rest assured that we've made the suggestion to our engineers, and hope it'll be included in a future site update.

Here is an example of another forum on MH, Breast Cancer, if the post is old, someone is putting "continue discussion" at the bottom of the thread.

People are free to continue discussion but it is a reminder that the thread is old.

I guess I thought that MH would be consistent across the board or Forum as the case may be.

Again, sorry I confused you
Thanks for your help

Hi I don't want them locked or disabled, I just saw where other forums on MedHelp (i.e. breast cancer) make you think before you reply to a post that is 5 or 10 years old.

It is as simple as clicking on "continue discussion"
Maybe I misunderstand how MedHelp works. aren't all the forums on MH operated under the same supervision?

It was just a suggestion to help new people not be ignored by responding to older posts.

I am sorry if I misunderstood what this forum was about
Thank you

Hi - thanks for the suggestion!  At this time, we're not closing or locking old threads.  A reasonably sizable number of people find MedHelp through searches that turn up the treasure trove of advice given in older posts, and having these posts available for comment to new individuals is valuable because they can chime in with a quick, "I've been experiencing that, too!"  Hopefully they go on to search for some of the more current threads about their situation or share their own questions.

It's certainly okay to encourage these posters to start their own thread, and if you see old posts that are inappropriate being reactivated, please report them to us so we can review them.  We're always happy to take a look if you have a concern.
