Locking threads

Is it possible with Medhelp's software to lock threads that get out of hand rather than deleting them?

Locking a thread would be beneficial by times, rather than deleting them. When a thread is deleted useful information is lost, if there is any in the thread. If it were locked, it would find it's way into the archives where it could be read, but not responded to.

The other benefit is a little obscure, but relevent. Sometimes I see a thread where the moderator will state that the discussion is over, or the thread will be deleted. Six months later some new person finds it in the archives, responds to it, and it is back on page one and the dissent and contention continues.

Often this will lead to deleting the thread.

So...can threads be locked?

Hi, Sumbl1ss,

This thread is a few years old, but these days, we're able to delete threads as well as close discussions, depending on the situation; these are administrative features that aren't available to members.

You do have the option of reporting posts to us, though.  If you feel you're being target, or if you come across posts that you feel are violations of our Terms of Use, please be sure to use the "Report" link.

agree'd.. deleting would be easier.. it could be started over.. but then again, if someone wants to look back on it, say, before the drama started, maybe it could be found via their page privately, by history..

I'm also wondering about deleting your OWN thread, or locking it, which ever. there isn't a delete comment/post button. or the whole thread itself, which i would like to do to my own, i no longer feel like hearing others "target" me, so to speak.

That was their answer to shutting up the drama, rather than deleting it they would lock it to further comments.

But then you simply run the risk of the drama hounds starting new threads "What happened...?" I hate those threads.

That's a great suggestion and one we would like to implement. We've had it on our list of to-do's for a while. We'll let you know when it's available.

Thanks,

Back in the old format, they used to be able to do that...close a thread to new comments, yet it would remain visible and searchable.
