When I was younger I was diagnosed by local GP's with the mumps many many time Eventually I was taken to an ENT. I had a blockage in the duct that drained the salivary gland. The ENT picked up the biggest dang knitting needle l ever did see and with "No Anesthesia Shots" at all jammed that needle into the blocked duct in my mouth. OMG the pain was unbelievable but was over in a few seconds and when he pulled that needle out the pain was instantly gone and I never got that swelling again. I would wager my left kidney (If I had one) you are going to have that same problem. Of course I was only about 10yrs old back then, l'm sure that few seconds of pain is going to a cakewalk for an adult like you.
p.s. I'm honestly beginning to believe that doctors in the mid 20th century were sadistic ESSO Bees that or maybe there just wasn't much local anesthetic medicine in those days.
