For you I think the P24 antigen will tell you if you have the antigen. By now if you were positive you would have a lot of antigen. So I don't see the reason for a rna quantitative assay. That is for once you are positive not for determination if you have it. The 4th generation duo test with p24 is the recommended test now by the American College of Pathologists and if negative now I would not worry about it.

i dont know where you are from but i was wondering if the rna quantitve viral load test is available where you are ? it tellsyou the amount of virus in your blood.i have your symptoms and at about the same time frame of 8 yrs the drs really didnt take it serious 8-10 yrs ago not sure of exact date .so they didnt test more than once i should have been tested again .my lymphocytes were down to 7 %. but are up to 27.5 now.the only thing is i believe i had it then despite a negative antibody test and now i have the throat and neck pain .folliculitis and cant test positive for any thing but ebv .i also have muscle wasting . ebv does not cause this. i am on my second set of doctors my original doctors who were failing me are the ones who failed me years ago .have had prostatitis for all these years.but he never put it together .he told me i always had the pimples on my shoulders.if he knew i had folliculitis why wouldnt he tell me and put 2 n2 together.im going to see a competent id this week hopefully they will figure me out .i think i am coinfected because i have muscle wasting walking sometimes hurts.they told me i wasnt contagious now my family members have symptoms.let me know if you figure something out.
green tea , coconut oil and st johns wort are antibacterial antiviral and boost the immune system . not a cure but may help alleviate some of your of throat pain.
have you tried any natural remedies to help with the throat and neck pain?
Well, ok get the 4th gen. I'm sure it will be negative. It isn't what is causing the neck pain that is something else.

UPDATE LOL: Going to see allergist/immunologist next Tuesday. Thinking about ordering a 4th generation test on my own. Still having much pain in throat/neck area. Can't shake HIV just yet.
Glad to help. Have a happy holiday as well.

Thank you so much for your answers. You are truly a doll. Have a happy holiday season!
I agree with the doctor on everything and yes put HIV to rest. I hope you find peace with this.

Ok WBC-4.7, lymphocytes 31%. Actually went up a bit. He indicated that I didn't need any further testing. Told me it would be a waste of time . Dermatologist said mouth looked normal. Told me that calf whiteness was some strange thing called transient blah blah or possibly vitiligo-recommended steroid cream and prescribed. Pcp wants me to see allergist. Otherwise he told me 8 years later 3d gen. Elisa would be conclusive; should I go ahead and put hiv to rest?
Good that your range was normal. Your immunity sounds ok. But if you want the CD4 you can ask. They may not need to do it. Since your CBC was normal. Was is the DNA PCR you want to do for? If for HIV it isn't as good as the 4th generation test. The newest recommendations are to get the 4th generation test it is the most accurate and sensitive now.
mkh9
My range was normal also for lymphocytes. I'll ask doc to run test for cd4 if he will. I can also ask I guess for DNA test pcr. Going to derm tom for mouth and I found white hive looming things on calf after sitting In the sun. Very concerned for my life
I'm not sure about the absolute lymphocyte count it varies from lab to lab. Do you know what your lab's range is? I wasn't talking specifics on the autoimmune disease just that some may cause joint pain just as rheumatoid arthritis. I would write what your current symptoms are including the blurred vision and give that to your doctors. What do you mean by lost antibodies. Do you mean do you have lowered antibodies or lowered immunity? You could tell by the complete blood count and you could also get CD4 count if you are worried. But if your lymphocytes and white blood cell count is in normal range then you are probably fine. It would be good to bring up these issues with your doctors.
mkh9
Is it possible that I lost antibodies? From what I've read that's beyond difficult to do
Never had a fever , but my temperature now varies between 96.5-96.9 which is low for me. My absolute lymphocyte count is 28% not sure if that's good (my CBC from months ago). Gonna see derm mon and pcp tues. Had blurred vision at gym today. What autoimmune disorder are you thinking?
Have you ever had a rheumatoid arthritis test done? Do you get a fever with this? I wonder if you have any autoimmune thing going on? But I would still get the scan done if you can.

So weird. I can workout and play sports. However my knees feel hot after and I feel strange pain in my elbows. Throat and neck always hurt
It can't hurt and would rule out any pathology of the throat. It may be negative but you can go from there. I don't know what else is going on other than reflux or something like that.
mkh9
I can afford it. Hmm, ask primary for ct scan of throat?
It may not be an infectious disease. You could check the pancreas. See if the doctor would do a lipase and amylase. If it is high you might have pancreatitis. Other things may be ulcer. But the throat problem maybe you should get the cat scan to rule it out that there isn't anything going on with that. If you can afford it.
mkh9
I just don't understand. I still feel very exhausted, throat still killing me, still sharp pain left side above abdominal. What other infectious disease could this be? It all makes no sense to me
Ok that is good. Yeah he probably meant that the EBV wouldn't mean much because about 90% of adults have already been exposed to EBV so it would just mean past exposure.
mkh9
He ran tb, hepatitis , hiv 3d gen, and a cancer type screening and std panel. He said ebv wouldn't show much? Or wouldn't mean much?
