I have a bump or boil slightly lower than my kneecap

I was in the water of the Tenn. River system on Thursday.this is Monday and I have pus and clear liquid under skin. It feels like it is on fire.

That sounds like an active infection.  Get to the doctor, via urgent care if possible, ASAP.  Although extremely rare, rivers and lakes can contain harmful bacteria that can enter through small cuts and scrapes, and cause very fast-moving infections.  Best to be evaluated right away.

Yes I agree. You can get some aggressive bacteria in fresh water. Please go to the ER.
I am a clinical microbiologist and have seen some bad things from fresh water infections.
