I have a cut near my tailbone, could it be serious?

It’s in between my buttocks and tailbone. It had a white tip so I’m assuming it was a pimple. It seemed to have popped and left a cut. But I’m concerned if it was something else like a cyst. Should I go to the doctor or try treating it first? If so what ointment could I put that is safe to apply in the area?

Also, wash your hands before and after touching it. Change any towels or anything that come in contact with it if it touches anything. Just in case.

Hi, does it hurt a lot? Do you have any fever or red streaks? Is it a deep cut or small?  If not then you could put some 3% topical hydrogen peroxide on it and let that dry (if you have that where you live). Then, put some triple antibiotic ointment on it (Neosporin for example). Cover it with a bandage and keep it clean. Change underwear often. If it gets wet or dirty clean and repeat.  If you have any problems with it, like it spreading or getting bigger, pus more sore, anything where it gets worse then see a doctor. If you get red streaks see your doctor the same day or go to Urgent care or ER.

Hi, thank you for the info and the response. I didnt feel feverish or notice any red streaks. But it was swollen and had kind of a purple look but like I said it appeared to have popped. It hurt at first but it wasn't an intense pain. Its a small cut. Should I avoid swimming?

No don't swim. I would keep it very clean wash it at first and use the antibiotic ointment.  If it doesn't get better  within a day or two after the antibiotic, see a doctor. Also, if it gets worse see a doctor. It should get better. Use the antibiotic ointment as directed until it is better (about a week). Pools are not that clean. A lot of them don't use enough chlorine etc.
