I was bitten by mosquitos whilst in Greece

Three of the bites became large red blisters - the Greek doctor gave me antibiotics and repellant spray. When I got home I started feeling poorly, feverish, nausea and aching limbs. Then I came out in a rash, so I went to the doctors. They tested for malaria, West Nile fever and dengue fever. I'm still waiting for the results. I started to feel a bit better and the bites had all bar cleared up (it's been about 3 weeks), but yesterday the two worst bite sites started itching again and have gone red and have a lump like another bite in the middle. Could anyone help me with this?

Hello, and welcome to the Infectious Disease Forum! We are not doctors on here but I am a microbiologist and can give you some advise. You symptoms sound most like Dengue, but West Nile and Malaria can have similar symptoms. West Nile usually doesn't have symptoms in most people, and Malaria usually has high fevers that cycle. But the secondary break out sounds like an allergy or hypersensitivity to mosquitoes by your description. I usually put a topical steroid on them for several days until the go down. Sometimes you can get bitten again in the same areas.  But I have had the same type of reaction with mosquutoe bites where they are large swellings and then have a central red area. It is a hypersensitivity reaction. Your lab work should be out by now. I would call the doctor. With West Nile you usually would have more problems with the second exposure to it. So if you get bit by another mosquito that has dengue you could get worse symptoms. They don't really treat Dengue, especially on the first time you get it. So you need to see what you have. I wouldn't worry unless your fever remains >101 degree F or you think the bites got infected such as having pus or red streaks etc. You can always have them checked again.
