Phlebotomist never wore gloves during blood draw

Hi there,

I recently had a blood test after suffering head trauma after competition and noticed the phlebotomist wasn't wearing gloves. I can't say i remember seeing her wash her hands immediately before but would she have washed her hands after her previous patient?. I noticed she had a few scratches on the top of her hand also.

Am i at risk of catching any blood borne diseases here?. Like, what if she had the previous patients blood on her hands

Thanks in advance

Phlebotomists generally wear gloves to protect themselves not the patient. So they are at much more risk than you are. I'm sure the person washed their hands before drawing your blood. But lets say they didn't you still wouldn't have gotten a blood infection that way. So you are fine.
