Can a person that got infected with hsv have their initial outbreak 1-2 years later?

Hello,
Thank you for your post. The website you posted had good information. My partner came home from a trip out of the country and all of a sudden got the "flu" or flu like symptoms, after he got better we had intercourse and a week after was when I had my initial outbreak. We then examined him and that was when I saw tiny healing blistering scabs on his groin. We then immediately went to see our doctor and the test results showed that we had recently had an initial out break. I have been with my partner for 6 years with a one year break. He had told me that he might have contracted hsv from a previous girl he dated on our off year. So after we got back together it has been a year since and he never had an ob until I contracted it from him. So my dilemma is whether his immune system is very healthy and he didnt get an initial ob when he first contracted with the girl he was with before or did he cheat on me when he went on a trip and right when he got back from the trip was when he had his initial ob and gave it to me. Is there any type of test or any way possible to find out how long a person has had hsv in their body or not?

How are you? Symptoms  of HSV infection may vary  and most cases of new herpes simplex virus infections do not produce symptoms. Even if  asymptomatic, transmission is still possible.
