Hi,
How are you? Venereal Disease Research Laboratory (VDRL) Test is indicated in the diagnosis of syphilis. However, this is not a specific test. VDRL test becomes positive 1-2 weeks after appearance of (primary lesion) chancre. And the test becomes reactive (50-75%) in the late phase of primary syphilis, becomes highly reactive (100%) in the secondary syphilis and reactivity decreases (75%) thereafter. ( ref: http://www.microrao.com/micronotes/vdrl.pdf) Furthermore, diagnosis is made taking into consideration the symptoms present and any reactive VDRL test must be confirmed with a specific tests such as TPHA or FTA-ABS test. Hope this helps. Take care and regards.
