Typhoid question, Salmonella resistance to antibtiotics.

Hey, doctors.
Its going to be a long question and also i am not sure if i am posting it in the right community or not, please correct me if i am wrong.
So the scenario is somewhat like this, i first acquired typhoid around 2013 dec.
It continued till FEB 2014, i kept taking antibiotics, such as rocephin, oxidil, intravenous, as prescribed by the doctors here, but my fever got really bad, it went upto 107.7, it was one of my worst experiences ever, they gave me cold bathes, sponging, ice and all, well it got over some how, and i was give 21 injections of meronem 1g three times a day for seven days along with azithromycin 500mg per day.
It should have cleared the typhoid but well it did not.
After month of thinking i am clear of this ****, i was not and i again developed tyhpid when i started to have fever on and off again, i went for typhoid test it came back positive. The doctor wrote a stool culture and sensitivity test.
CULTURE : Growth of salmonella spp. obtained after 24 hours of incubation at 37 degree c.
Antimicrobial sensitivity.
I am resistant to ampicillin, amoxicillin, amoxicillin/clavunic acid, ampicillin/sulbactam, nalidixic acid, levofloxacin, ofloxacin, moxifloxacin.
I am sensitive to,
Cefoperazone, cefotaxime, ceftazidime, ceftriaxone, cifixime.

My doctor then prescribed me CIFIXIME 400 mg two times a day for 1 week and one time a day for 2 weeks.
total three weeks course.
The problem is i am still not okay after a month of taking antibiotics.
All these long courses of antibiotics have affected my liver badly.
Please help me as what should i do.
Also due to that high temperature i had last year i have had several problems with my speech and memory.
This typhoid is ruining my life.

Hi and so sorry you have gone through all this. Firstly, we are not doctors on these sites. I am a microbiologist though and can give you advice but you really need a good infectious disease doctor on this.

Yes It does sound like you have a very resistant type of Salmonella typhi (the bug that causes Typhoid). So you can reinfect yourself and I wonder if that is the case or whether you just didn't get the right combination of antibiotics. Be sure to wash your hands well, bleach all surfaces down with 10% bleach and wash all clothes and linen in bleach if you can.

Where do you live now?

Did you ever get a blood culture taken? It sounds like you probably got it in your blood stream when the fever was really high.

Contrary to popular believe a high fever will not cause brain damage. So, I' am not sure what is going on there. Maybe you also got a parasite or some other issue. You may want to get a brain scan to see if there is something going on or at least a ova and parasite stool test. Have you checked your blood chemistries for the electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride and CO2)? Were you bitten by any mosquitos?

So, you can 1. See an infectious disease (ID) doctor and/or 2 also see a neurologist for the other issues. The ID doctor should help. But do tell the long story and the problems with memory and speech you have been having lately.Maybe write it down keep a copy and give one to the doctor. Be concise and to the point or they may not read it all. Be sure to stay hydrated.
