plz help-HTLV Questions

Hello,

Plz note: This is not about hiv-it is about htlv 1 and htlv 2.

I would really really appreciate your help in reading this study and interpreting the results. I have read that sometimes htlv antibody tests do not pick up antibodies to htlv. Here is the article in question: http://www.scielo.br/pdf/rimtsp/v49n6/05.pdf

Also, please note that on page 3 it talks about a study in San Francisco in which there were false negative results as well.

From what I am understanding and hoping is the case is that these negative results were due to the subjects possibly being infected with advanced hiv as well and hence their immune response to htlv was not efficient and/or maybe they had not seroconverted yet. Could anyone please review the study and let me know? I would really appreciate it. Thank you!!

Oh I have no idea but honestly I don't care about the "best answer" option myself.

Get back to living life instead of worrying about things not worth worrying about :) Life is short enough as it is not to add to what you have to do while living it!!

I am extremely worried and the online forums in which some people write that htlv tests do not pick up all infections is really troubling.. Would you know if this is true?

I am worried because I read symptoms may not manifest until 30 years after infection.. I was tested but I am not sure about the accuracy of these tests, hence I came across this study. That is why I wanted someone else to read it to see how to interpret it..

I do have ocd and anxiety & had been going to therapy before.. I am going to resume it soon..

I would not be concerned about this at all. It was 20 years ago.

Are you getting professional help for your anxiety and ocd?

Hi Grace,

Thank you for replying. I am worried because my mom had a blood transfusion in Russia about 20 years ago. They do not test the blood supply there for htlv. I am thinking that either she or I may be infected (her from blood transfusion and me from her breast-feeding).
