high prolactin - trouble conceiving

note: please send back a question if you would like further bloodwork.

trying to conceive naturally. 43.5years old.

prolactin    46.8-53.1
tsh    3.18-5.74
ft4    1-1.2
vit d    3.1

mri of pituitary. awaiting results.
no gadolinium due to allergic concerns.

presently 25mcg levoxyl - first 3 weeks. will up to 50mcg as directed.
also b6 - 50mg; folic acid - 400mg.

questions:
1. what are options for high prolactin (~50)? drs are hopeful levoxyl will remedy. mri may not produce quality view w/o gadolinium.

2. what other nutritional support should be included for conception? highly sensitive to conventional medication. typically react with hives.

thank you.

thank you for your response.

my endo and i will be discussing possible medications for a micro pituitary tumor soon.

the plan is to see how well i respond to thyroid medication first. although, with a rather low "high prl" (50), it is not expected to change much.

as far as the diet, i could have written this 30 years ago. perhaps i should increase my ice cream intake...   :)

Answer: MRI is still the best approach to look for any prolactin secreting tumours.
Many doctors use cabergoline for treatment of high prolactin.

There is a new book out from Harvard Medical School by Dr, Jorge E. Chavarro, Dr. Walter C. Willett, and Patrick J. Skerrett called The Fertility Diet.  I think this is the latest on nutrition support for fertility.
