pain management

hi i'm new to the group and happy to find some info on IC. I have had out infections my whole life or so i thought!  2 yrs. ago i had another doctor for a few months while mine was on maternity leave after going in every 2 to 4 weeks with a uti she said "this is not normal and im going to start testing yr. urine."...all the further tests came back negative for bacteria but there is always blood and protein in my urine. So she said i have IC and there is no known cure....she never mentioned anything for pain management, my doctor now back from mat.leave doesn't like to give pain meds either. i was wondering what you all use to manage pain... so far i have used antinflamatories like ibuprofen but they make my stomach hurt and i also use a hot bag on the area, is there anything better i can use? i'm in the middle of another flare up right now...i brought my urine in to get tested on tuesday and called my doctor yesterday to get the results( which were in)....she never returned my call and she takes every friday off... so now i get to suffer all weekend not really knowing if this is an infection this time or another flare up.

I am working on article on IC and Intercourse.  There are many things you can do to help with this pain issue.  On our MOARK IC  website, I recently worked with my compounding pharmacy and we developed a gel that is a great lubricant and uses Silverbiotics a soothing antibacterial gel, NO PRESERVATIVES, along with MSM for inflammation and lidocaine for pain.  Under treatment options there is a letter for doctor's on the vaginal suppositories etc that has the info and dosages as well.  This might be a good place to start.

I will try to post once I finish the article as well!

thank you very much...ill check to see if those meds are available here in canada. i will also check the diet out too...although i find my symptoms are triggered a lot by stress and intercourse, but i will check to see if there is anything im eating that would contribute to the cysts. I did go and see 1 urologist back in march and he said i needed to be in the middle of a flare up for him to check my bladder, the problem is that by the time i get another appt its usually under control again.
i have had this under control for about 6 months until now...im going to jamaica in 2 weeks to get married and the stress has started loll, then having intercourse and the next day it was back. i write everything i eat down and i didn't try anything different in the last week thats why im wondering if its the stress? have you heard anyone else saying that?

Truthfully pain control is the heart of most IC treatments and coping tools.
Most patients find having an aresonal of coping tools is key to quality of life!

Right now as you go through the diagnosis and early process there are many things you can do.  AZO, Uristat and Cystex all make meds that are over the counter for bladder pain.  Just check with your doctor of pharmacist to make sure these do not interfere with your other meds. in any way.

The first thing you can do for yourself is diet!  There is an excellent new diet on the ICN Network and if you go to our MOARK IC site there are many articles specifically to give you info etc. for newly diagnosed patients.  These include treatment options like meds, bladder instills and vaginal suppositories.

One suggestions I would make is to find a good Pelvic Pain Physical Therapist, often they can rule out alot of other issues that might be going on along with your IC or by themselves.!

Keep in touch and I hope in time we can have health pages here so that I can give you links to the articles that will help you!
Let me know if you have additional ???
