UTI/Cystitis

I have recurrent Cystitis (at least that is what I think it is - I also don't know the difference between normal Cystitis and Interstitial Cystitis) that used to be triggered by cold feet, however it seems to have got worse and is now triggered whenever my body gets cold (and it's hard to stay warm 24-7).

I have had a Cystoscopy and they found nothing there. A few times bacteria has been found in a urine test and I was given antibiotics (Alprim) yet symptoms often remained after the course of tablets. When a urine test has been re-taken no bacteria was found. I was also tested for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea and tests came up clear and an ultra-sound on my kidneys showed my kidneys are fine.

I have taken Cranberry tablets, Hiprex (urinary tract antibacterial), Ural (drinking sachets), Alprim (antibiotic). I keep myself warm as much as possible at all times yet this is difficult through winter which is when I suffer most. I don't drink caffeine and have a high alkaline diet. Eat chocolate VERY rarely. I drink Apple cider Vinegar and honey in hot water.

I take many other necessary precautions but still have a lot of trouble with this condition.

The symptoms:
It first starts off as discomfort in the urethra and frequent urination. As it worsens, I begin to feel pressure and pain in the bladder (cramping and sharp pains), frequency increases incredibly and it becomes hard to hold, and the pain while urinating begins. There has also been traces of blood in the urine. Walking and other movement become uncomfortable, even certain sitting positions there is discomfort.

I also have Cold Urticaria which is an allergy to the cold. Whether the two are related or not I don't know. Thing is NO ONE has been able to help me and I have seen specialist after specialist; doctor after doctor and they can do nothing but give me advice on how to prevent it. Every bit of advice they give I am already doing and more, yet I still continue to suffer.

What should I do? Please help!

I'm so sorry to hear about all the pain and confusion you've had to deal with. Although IC is not my area of expertise (this is a forum for pelvic organ prolapse) I do know someone who is brilliant in this field. I'm going to send you a PM to get the ball rolling to connect you two.

I just came across this forum, and just want to say I am suffering with so many of the exact same things you are.  About six months ago I started to feel like I had a uti, I took many urine tests but they all came back negative. I went back and forth with my family doctor for months and months, until one night I had abdominal pain in my bladder so severe I doubled up on the floor and could not move.  I went back to my doctor the next day and demanded to see a urologist, who booked me for hydrodistension within the week.
However, they found nothing.  At first my urologist thought I either had IC or endometriosis; but later said I couldn't have IC because I don't wake up in the night having to urinate, and I couldn't have endo. because my periods have never been extremely painful.  However I have many of the symptoms of both conditions.  My urologist just keeps pumping me full of antibiotics and telling me to check back in in a few weeks.
Whatever is wrong with me is litterally ruining my life.  It is uncomfortable just to stand up or walk around.  I have not had sex in months because whenever I try, it is either painful or just feels like my bladder is full (which it isn't)
My symptoms started with feeling like I have to urinate CONSTANTLY, in fact sometimes when I go, the feeling is just more intense after.  In the last couple of weeks I have developed intense spasms down there, burning when I urinate, back pain, and overall pain throughout my very low abdomen.  I have been tested for diabetes and stones, and it all has come back negative.
ANY advice anyone could give me would be great.  No doctor is taking me seriously enough, I am in so much despair.

Thank you for your reply. It's hard to know what acidic things to cut out as some "acidic" foods/drinks change to alkaline once in your system - such as oranges, lemons and limes. Apple cider vinegar is also an alkaline once you have it in your system.

Full list here: http://www.rense.com/1.mpicons/acidalka.htm

Check it out as many acidic foods you think are bad to eat, actually are not acidic once in your body and they act as alkaline.

I will try cut out more acidic foods and see how I go. Thank you for your help.

There are so many girls that have IC but the Cystoscopy shows a perfectly healthy bladder. My uro says there are 2 types, those with hunners and those without.
Ive had IC for a long time and been around a lot of women/men with it and the best thing you can do is eliminate foods/drinks for now. If you dont have cystitus, you dont need to be drinking Cranberry etc. It is the worst thing for IC/Painful pladder syndrome, another acidic. Vinegar is like pouring poison onto your bladder, acidic fruit/vegetables, so much to look out for. My life actually got better with IC when I changed the water I drank, didnt realise how acidic it was.
I wont go on and on, but know you have the symptoms of so many IC girls and know that it comes in all different forms, everyones different. Your symptoms are almost identical to mine but I had bladder spams as well.
Have you had your kidneys checked for stones?
I would really recommend that just for a week you try the IC diet, its hard but its really worth it.
If you want to know more let me know :)

hi hate to hear what youve been going through especally when you know something is wrong but the doctors seem not to find it or see it thats the worst.Im not sure i can help but i'll try i have "ic" found out in 08 along with yrs of dealing with endometrious there the same pretty much there called the evil twins didn't know i had "ic" because there so much a like but with you being cold im not sure of ive never had that symptom with eaither now when i would get cold it would trigger a flare quickly or if i got upset over something because i tense up when im cold and upset and it puts bladder in a spazem when u get that chill and just tense up like you need to get warm like your freezing and ur body goes tight.have yu checked ur iron for the coldness im sure just checking.now the pain and discomfort seems related to both endo and "ic" the pain u get with eaither one of them is unbarable can't be explained thats how bad it hurts but the way u said seems like that sittin the cant walk or stand and frequent urination all of it. heating pad is my bff.im glad they did check for "ic"and foud nothing it's a tough horriable dease but dont just forget about it if they dont find something thats wrong beacuse they make mitakes there human but i'd look into endo aswell now the only way to be diagnosed is laporocopy so if they say u dont or something there probley just going by ur past medical history.i also recently been diagnosed with pop(pelvic organ prolapse) yea seems im a mess but i turned away from surgry for now to get second opion i don't want them to take anything out unless im certain and they are i just had a baby c-section and ultrasouns since she was born and the other docs never seen it and i went to a specalist just 1 time and he said he seen it i dont know it's a mess but i do have a link to "ic" site i can send if you like but ur symtoms seem to much like those 2 if u need anything im here hope u find whats going on and answers
