chest discomfort

male 29 285 pounds. no family history, currently taking metoprolol 100mg per day.

Over the last three years i have experienced chest discomfort and it changes in types of pain and location. At times it is in the center of the chest, sometimes on the right and other times on the left. sometimes sharp pains other times a dull ache. The sensations come in quick bursts, and happens while i am sitting doing nothing.walking or jogging on does not make it worse and does not bring it on. I do not experience shortness of breath.

i have been to the doctor and had 3 ekg's over the last 3 years and all have come back "normal"  i was diagnosed with panic and anxiety disorder.

Is what I am experiencing sound cardiac in nature?

Your symptoms are "atypical" for cardiac origin . Also at your age, they are less likely to be from coronary artery disease. An EKG done at rest when you are not having pain may not be able to diagnose blockage in your heart blood vessels. If your symptoms become worrisome a stress test (treadmill stress or treadmill echo or treadmill nuclear) would help in detecting presence of any significant blockage in your heart blood vessels.

Can't remember from your last post why you are taking the metoprolol - I take it as well.  Hope the docs answer your question.  If I recall, most of us told you that it didn't sound like your symptoms sounded cardiac.  The changes in types of pain and discomfort and not worsening due to exertion don't fit what I know of typical cardiac symptoms (but I'm not a doc).  I'm not a big believer in the diagnostic ability of an EKG - I think the best non-interventional test is the nuke stress test and I've read about the potential of the 64CT slice.  Not sure your symptoms would drive a cardiologist to recommend such a test - again, hope the doc provides you w/ better info.
