Oh yeah...  Throw tea in there too!  It also has caffeine.  Unless it's something like herbal.  Even decaffinated teas and coffees have 1%; which is enough if you're already inflamed inside.

I think, personally, that was wrong of them to tell you that IBS leads to cancer, but it can occur as it can occur with any prolonged inflamation that isn't being controlled.

I can tell from the medications you listed that you are someplace in EU...

It appears they "are" treating you for IBS with an intestinal sedative, a fiber substitute, and something for excess stomach acid.

Regardless if you are in America, EU, Canada, et al... you're pretty much going to be treated with the same regimine.

Taking stock of yourself is going to be most important.  Eliminating stress and inflamatories (i.e. caffeine, alcohol, smoking, spicy foods, raw vegetables that promote gas, anti-inflamatories like aspirin, ibuprofen on an empty stomach, etc...) is very, very important while you are having episodes of IBS.

In your case?  Because I believe your doctors scared you to death at the mention of cancer?  Do something to change your way of thinking.  Yoga, exercise, enjoying good books in the park... something that calms YOU down and consequently gives your medications an advantage to work on your syndrome.

If all patients who have IBS developed cancer there wouldn't be anyone to post.  So yes, they are right in that you need to control it and stop the inflamation or it can cause long term issues and "possibly" cancer, but don't go writing out a will tomorrow unless they've already diagnosed you having cancer.  Doesn't sound like they did, but it sounds like they've totally scared you.

The dryness in your mouth can come from one of three things:
- dehydration because you're losing water with the diarrhea,
- the medication you're taking has that as a side affect, or
- you're suffering from anxiety.

The omeprezole is the sedative.  They feel if you take it before you eat, and wait a bit for it to work, it will stop the spasms and you won't have to empty your intestines.  Therefore, you'll be able to glean some vitamins and nutrients from what you've eaten and you won't have the pain.

However, start watching what you're ingesting.  Like I said, caffeine is a no no because it is acidic and promotes inflamation.  If that's all you have for breakfast is coffee after taking the sedative you might as well throw the sedative out.

Does that make sense?

Good comment with one correction- Omeprazole is not a pain killer it is a PPI - protein pump inhibitor: it is to reduce acid reflux
