Nausea and Dry Heaves??

Hello,

I've been diagnosed with chronic constipation and I've had KUBs showing that my upper colon was almost impacted with stool but an upper GI showed nothing abnormal. I've had to do colon purges with Gatorade and Miralax and I take Miralax and Prilosec daily. I know that nausea is common with IBS but I wanted to know if dry heaves common with IBS?

I've been researching and I haven't seen anyone complain of the dry heaving so could it be something else? I have Hashimoto's, anxiety, depression and I've had one of my ovaries removed. I'm getting scared and thinking I have ovarian cancer although the pathology didn't show it and a transvaginal ultrasound done in November of 09 was normal. I'm so anxious and I don't know what's going on with my stomach and intestines.

I meant to start out that when I'm extremely constipated I am often nauseated.  Once when I was in my 20s I got so nauseated I actually vomited, and it was from much lower than my stomach from the fecal smell it had.  Nasty.

I realize your history is complicated due to the Hashimoto's, but I can relate to the very high constipation/impaction.  I have a twisted colon and the colonoscope could not be passed through the splenic flexure (the turn it would have to make to go from the sigmoid to the transverse colon.  My job that involved constant sitting made it worse.  Therefore I started standing to type.  This moved the pain to my hip.  So I finally addressed the minor leg length discrepancy I have, even though it's only 1/2 inch.  Would you believe my hip pain quickly resolved and my constipation seemed to improve?  From just improving mechanics!!  It might be worth it to check if your hips are off kilter and pressing on nerves since your constipation is high up like mine.

I had dry heves after my colonoscopy. I was having lots of low abdominal pain, and by my belly button. Lots of neg tests gyn, colonoscopy. Finally had a CAT SCAN, Diagnosis diverticulous. My gastro dr. or rather former gastro dr. said diverticulous does not cause pain. I've read in books and on the internet that diverticulous can cause pain. I have pain after a bowel movement in the morning. Pain or annoying cramps all day.  I found Heather's IBS information and products on the internet. Been following diet for two days and using her products. Feeling better, I think.

if i listen to you it reminds me of myself 2 years ago.The doctor were giving me meds for thyroid although I didn't have thyroid problem when my symptoms started to worsen I went to physician and he said I must drop all meds that I take and drink as much fluid I can for one month to clean up my stomach. By the time I visited physician i had uncontrollable diarrhea which was caused by bacteria overgrowth. He said if I would carry on meds i would have probably be dead by now. After my stomach went to normal condition I was diagnosed with IBS as side effect that bacteria overgrowth left me with.
here are some good tips how to treat constipation without meds. Eat two grapefruits preferably   with skin but if you can't then only red soft part of it(it will soften your stool you will notice improvement within 2-3 days) , try to eat small foods but eat more often, fruits such as kiwi, mango are essential too.try to stick to a lot of salads , green tea without sugar will help too.
try to avoid sugar, tea, coffee, meet as all that takes long to digest and will worsen your symptoms
Try to get off the meds as it still do leave side effects on your organs

Yes, you're right that they didn't find anything in my stomach at all. I've only had the constipation that was pretty bad in my upper colon and now the nausea which I  absolutely hate. I've had blood tests and they didn't show any signs of pancreatic or liver disease and I'm not diabetic. I do have Hashimoto's thyroiditis and was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid earlier this year. My endocronologist thinks that my numbers are not bad enough to explain the level of discomfort I feel and the degree of my constipation.
I know that I should get more exercise because it does help my depression and I'm increasing  my intake of fluid. I stick with the same docs because I know not to do so would only cause me more problems. I never knew that stomach issues could be so debilitating and I'm a RN....yikes!! Thanks again, be well and I'll keep you informed :).

You are welcome. If you did endoscopy and it came back normal this means you don't have Chron's disease, celiac disease, gallbladder disorder, there are no obstructions or pylops in your stomach and no cancer, your stomach lining is normal!!! I'm sure that colonoscopy will come back normal too, as usually colon get infected if stomach gets infected. Blood test will rule out pancreatic disorder, diabetic and liver disorder. You have done all mentioned above then it's mental thing that you have. Although I carry on going for blood test every 6 month and I'm seeing physician every 3 month this is just to keep myself  calm.
Do some physical activity to control your stress levels , secondly try to visit one doctor and it should be specialist. Visiting too many doctors means getting too many different diagnoses and doctors like to give pills which we take and think that it helps.
If you don't have relief from the pills within a week stop taking go visit doctor again this is just advice , I got IBS due to doctors incompetence .I just had stressful time and they were curing me for thyroid, allergies and ect.
So be careful and choose wisely. Get better soon

Thanks a bunch for replying. I know my anxiety can make any illness worse...it's very difficult dealing with it :(.  I've had an endoscopy that was unremarkable and I have another test coming up, not a colonoscopy but maybe I should have one if the other test is normal. Congrats on feeling better and I hope my symptoms will subside soon like yours :). I'll keep you informed...be well :).

please go see professional physician . Your anxiety and stress might worsen the symptoms of IBS, as well as that's might be a reason of you having such a bad constipation.
I'm diagnosed with IBS-C and had variety of symptoms that IBS couldn't explain untill I have done colonoscopy and endoscopy and it shows there is nothing in my colon or stomach I stopped stressing and anxious then most symptoms disappeared , I can even say that I have my normal life back as I do eat fast food time to time, drink alcohol  and so on
