Hey everyone. For the last couple of months or so, I've been having some pretty crappy (literally) GI symptoms. For almost three weeks straight I was getting green diarrhea which would stem from a SEVERE upper stomachache and would happen for a good hour or two. This seriously was me running to the bathroom about once every 10 minutes for those couple of hours. Afterwards I'd be lying down on the floor in such utter pain and exhaustion, shivering from all the excretion going on, plus losing electrolytes etc. It does eventually pass, sometimes after an entire night of agony though. Anyway, I tried all the eliminations I could think of like wheat or vegetables or sugar or what have you. There was a point where I drank nothing but bone broth and water and Ensure for weeks. Still, it was happening.
Anyway, after awhile I started just eating normally again, despite the pain, because fecal tests, ultrasound and blood work yielded absolutely nothing. But then came the realization that most of the time when I'd have the pain, I'd had coffee at some point that day. Usually in the morning or early afternoon. So then, I experimented with taking coffee out of my diet completely (even though I only ever had ONE small mug of brewed coffee per day) for about two weeks.
Well, voila. Those two weeks were pain free and I had wonderful, normal, healthy stools every day and felt great. My stomach didn't feel bloated and horrible and things were good.
Just to confirm my theory, today I decided to try having a cup of coffee, to see if the pain would return. Indeed it did - but about EIGHT hours after the cup of coffee! I had nothing else that could account for the pain today.
So yeah, sorry for the huge pre-blurb there, but... has anyone else noticed this?
Can coffee really be wreaking havoc on my poor stomach 8 hours later?
Would love to hear comments on this PLEASE!
