constant upper abdominal bloating

For 8 months I have been suffering from upper abdominal bloating.  I look like I am nine months pregnant.  I have been to the doctor several times and undergone many tests.  I had a pap to check for cancer, blood tests to rule out liver problems, xrays and blood tests to check for enlarged heart, and other heart disease, a colonoscopy, ultrasound to look at liver, kidneys, pancreas, etc. All of the tests came back normal.  I am completely frustrated and at a loss at what to do next.  There is never any relief. I am constantly bloated.  It is so umcomfortable I can't describe it.  None of my clothes fit because my gut is so huge.  I consulted with a gynocologist to see if peri menopause could be a factor but she thinks it is unlikely.  My primary care doctor said it could be IBS and to increase my fiber.  The gastroentrologist who did the colonoscopy said it could be IBS but to decrease all of my fiber intake.  I have no idea what to do next.  If anyone has any ideas please write back.  I'm 42 years old and this is really starting to take a toll on living my life.  I am becoming more depressed every day. Thanks to anyone who can help or at least can relate to this awful situation.

I have the same problem!  Probiotic suppliment and yogurt helps me.  It isn't 100% effective but makes life a little better!

Hello everyone! I have been suffering from the same symptoms for about a year now and I can say that I'm almost cured!!! So I wanted to share with everyone what I did. It took me a year but I found that these were the most essential to getting better. First, you want to get yourself glutamine powder and aloe in order to heal both your stomach and intestines. For about two weeks, I took a tsp of glutamine 3x a day and ate half an aloe leaf for breakfast and dinner. Afterwards, get yourself a really high quality probiotic- i took jarrow dophilus for about 2 weeks, once a day in the morning. Then I stopped the probiotics and glutamine and took enteric coated peppermint oil along with peppermint spirits 3x daily on an empty stomach and I can finally say that I'm getting better! I'm a healthy 22 year old who should not be suffering from constant bloating and I was determined to find a cure for myself. Also, make sure you have a healthy liver so try and take some artichoke extract!!! Everything helps :)

I have the same symptoms and have been like this for almost 2 months.  Nobody (Dr.'s) seem to be concerned.  I just go from medication to medication.  I am VERY uncomfortable and upset.  I really need some advice and help.

I have upper abdominal bloating without any accompanying pain or discomfort. I start out in the morning flat and after lunch I am bloated. I am always regular, never constipated. I do eat a lot of roughage, green veg mainly. I drink low fat milk and I love my milk so not giving that up. No idea what makes me bloat, have had tests and nothing showing anywhere so assume this is just how I'm meant to be!

I am exactly the same, only because i am actually overweight anyway no one ever wants to help you when you have a problem :( But i was getting so bad i was scared to eat. i would go days without eating to try and stop the bloating and the pain. I eat really healthily so i had no idea what is was. I am still having issues as my dr refuses to help me. It got to the point when if i tried to have a cup of tea i would have a few sips and bloat so badly my stomach was solid. i felt as though i had eaten a whole christmas dinner......

very sad times. Since, i have made the switch to green tea, i add nothing to it unless i require some sweetener, i find i can finally drink again!!! i do not bloat chen i drink the tea and ias i am getting more fluids i am feeling better. i still have horrid pain if i eat, but unfortunatly all the dr will do is say yes you have ibs, no figure out what foods start it off and dont go near them again. so unfortunatly it is trial and error, some people will tell you that tea works, some will say that switching margerine for butter works, but it is personal to you! Everyone is different but if you are as miserable as i was you will take to time out and keep a food diary, first try cutting out milk, then dairy, then fructose, lactose etc........ i swear something will click and the penny will drop and you will just live from then on never going near a certain food group again.

fingers crossed you find out what it is! im still working on mine, but on bad days when i am too scared to eat, i always have my tea :) its like a comfort now :) good luck!

I have had the same problem with upper abdominal bloating for over a year now. I have had basically every test you can imagine and there appears to be nothing wrong!  Only that I felt so bloated and miserable that I could not even wear a real bra!  Anyway I was surfing the web and stumbled upon an herb, Artichoke leaf extract.  I ordered it from Amazon, the liquid form for about $10, I figured it was worth a try.  I got the product last night, and I kid you not, the first dose made me feel light as a feather!
I am still on cloud nine with it and I ordered another bottle already!  I hope someone out there reads this and is helped as much as I have been! I still don't know the cause, but I do know the cure.  Good Luck

For me, it was during the summer and my stomach was very bloated for days.  I knew i was going to be spending a lot of time in a bathing suit and didn't want to have a huge stomach or have someone ask me if I was pregnant.  I'm not "regular" when it comes to going to the bathroom so I figured a colon cleanse would be a good place to start.  If I lost weight along the way, that's just an added bonus.

I started taking the Dr. Max Powers 15 Day Cleanse.  The bottle says to drink 8oz of water with the pills but I always tried to drink more. I also made sure i didn't take them on an empty stomach.  That being said, my experience so far has not been that bad.

The first 2 days I went to the bathroom at least 1x a day.  On the 3rd day, it was the toughest. My stomach was cramping a lot and I was very gassy.  I didn't stop taking the pills because I figured they were working.  After all, i want to remove stuff from my body.

I don't know if what I did was right, but I followed the directions on the bottle, stuck with my same diet which isn't so healthy and didn't exercise.

My stomach isn't bloated anymore (knock on wood) and I see a difference in my thighs as well (which was a pleasant surprise). It feels a lot better than a laxitive because there are no sudden runs to the bathroom.  It appears to be safe and natural.  I am drinking more water than I use to and honestly have more energy.

HOpe my review helps you decide whether or not youre going to try this product.  Once again, as I mentioned, I"m sure everyone's experience will be different and it's important to listen to the reviews that relate to your experience.  Good luck.

Did any of this come on after an intestinal illness like the stomach bug or a bout of diarrhea?  It's possible you might have SIBA - small intenstinal bacteria overgrowth.  My stepmother had much the same problems as you and even attempted suicide due to the symptoms.  Someone finally did a stool culture and found she had about 200x the amount of normal intestinal flora she was supposed to have.  A month of antibiotics fixed her right up.

Honey, try a colon cleanse.  It helped me tremendously.  Most of my bloating is gone!!  I looked like I was pregnant, too, and I only weigh124 @ 5'5. I tried Gas-X and even prescription meds, but as long as I stay on the fiber from the cleanse kit, I am back in my size 6 jeans and don't have to consider ordering Spanx anymore!   Check the web for a colon cleanse, as I'm not supposed to mention the one I use on here.  But, if you consider that I had all the tests you've had and no longer have bloating, burping or gas or even swollen feet, you might really want to try one.  I hope this helps.  I know how miserable you feel with a bloated stomach no one can find anything medically wrong with.  After you do the cleanse, stay on the fiber and you should be a lot happier soon.  Good luck!

I was in a similiar situation from 1986 to 2000. It just got worse, I was thinking of quitting my job as the gas was so bad, the pain, terrible. My son saved me. I found an old book on herbal cures and
read about ginger root. I got it at Wal-Mart, in the vit. section, $3.00 bottle (after I had spent
thousands of dollars) I took two and went and ate a piece of pizza. NOTHING HAPPENED. I then
ate some ice cream. NOTHING HAPPENED. I drank a coke. NOTHING. No bloating, gas or pain.
I was hysterical! Since, I have stopped eating junk, drink 1/2 glass carrot juice every morning
take ginger root 2 caps once a day. NO DAIRY, severly limit fried food and barbque, NO MILK,
only soy milk. In 2007, I had a severe gall bladder attack and they said I could have died there were
so many stone, one lodged in the common duct. I am on the same diet as above, ginger root, and
have to take Immodium for the diarrhea, which has since diminished. I limit my meat intake and
eat a lot of veggies, LIMIT THE BREAD.  I would not be able to work if it weren't for ginger. I have
since found out it is now used at a large hospital here for the nausea w/chemo patients. Docs
found out it works better than drugs. Try it and good luck!

It sound like you have had alot of tests done. But have you had an ultrasound done on the ovaries? I ask because a cyst on the ovaries can cause bloating. Also I learned on another site that peppermint can help with bloating.
